Average ticket prices have gone up at amc for all the movies, so nothing exceptional for this 1 but I saw $25 ticket price in other theaters. All the seats are still available so there is no demand as of now.

Are people really willing to pay so much for a movie?

If this works, then, other high budget movies might follow suit

"Baahubali: The Beginning did over $8 million in the US and Baahubali: The Conclusion should do about $15 million," said Soma Kancherla of Great India Films. The distribution company has bought the North America (USA and Canada) distribution rights for the Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam versions of the film for $7 million which does not leave them with substantial room for profit.

"We do not expect much higher returns because the price we've paid is high and have to hike ticket prices to support the same," Kancherla said. "We do not encourage high ticket prices but we lost out on a few good movies (in the past) by offering less to producers and so had to go with the flow (with this film)."

Telugu tickets are in the 20s range while Hindi is in 30s when I checked. Which means Hindi distributor in North America bought at rate even less profitable.

IDK about any BW movie, but the tickets for Kabaali, a Rajnikanth movie was $25. Most were sold out and the theater count was like 200 I think. It opened better than Bahubali 1.0.

This is par for course for a Telugu film. A big Telugu film have that high prices from ages compared to a big Hindi movie. But that is usually only for the premieres, for Baahubali it looks like it will stay that way for its entire run.
And already 2 Million tickets are sold in pre-sales it seems, so price don't seem to be that big an issue for a majority.

I heard that some distributors haven't been profitable due to the selling price of the film etc. So film has to be hiked.
