I don't see any actor as "From this state". This classification never comes to my mind for BW actors . I wonder why?

I can see them as - TV actors, Insiders, Outsiders, Indians, Imported and a few other labels - never as Bong, Delhite, South Indian etc.

We don't either...
And don't like class system like tv actors or movie actors either 😊 or outsiders, insiders...

But when fans don't get to see their fav actors on BW, they start making assumptions...
You're lucky, you get to see your fav. all the time in BW movies 😊

I saw Kamal Hassan's 4 attempts. I am glad he left. He would have forgotten his incredible talent if he had stayed any longer. 😊

@Bold

I can only speak for myself, but I think it depends on what your mother tongue is and if you watch regional movies. For me, my parents are from the South of India and so the actors I grew up with are mostly South. BW is more an after thought. which I discovered on my own and mostly Khan movies really. Almost my entire family and friends circle watches South and rarely BW, so I have huge gaps in knowledge in movies of people like Dilip Kumar, Sanjeev Kumar, Dev Anand because I have not seen them. Heck, even Bachchan Sr movies are alien to me except a few. "My movies" are South if it makes more sense, BW is not therefore that alien if I see a South actor in BW.

Kamal Haasan, Rajnikant, Chiranjeevi, Nagarjuna, they all did BW movies in the 80s

In the 80s, south producers/ directors like K Balachander were making Hindi remakes of Tamil/Telegu superhits and they usually preferred the south actors as well

KH and Rajnikant got some success in BW in several hit movies
But I guess they didnt continue as they had far more successful career down south

I remember KH's Hindi debut film, Ek Dooje Ke Liye was a huge hit in 1981, all of us loved that film, the songs were a rage that year.

Appu Raja is one of my all time favorites, KH's acting as the dwarf was just mindblowing ⭐️

And of course Sadma is one of his best movies in Hindi, again a remake of Tamil film

KH also got awards for Saagar (Filmfare Best Actor), was nominated for FF Best Actor for Ek Duuje Ke Liye

Rajni also did quite a few commercial Hindi movies like Hum, Andha Kanoon, Chaalbaaz, Phool Bane Angaarey etc

Because BW stars kids mostly get opportunities especially the male actors and mostly punjabi star kids has the strong connection in BW, most of the yesteryear bengali actors actresses married outside of their region, if we count kajol as bengali then we should also count saif and abhishek as bengali too because their parents are from different regions like kajol's parents, both jaya and sharmila are bengali but mostly we consider their father's side.

Its always been Punjabi Boys and South Indian girls ruling the roost in BW.Not just Bengal,we dont have many actors from UP/MP/Jharkand/Orissa/North East region either.

But there were some brilliant Bong actresses in BW like Konkana,Kajol,Rani,Jaya B in past. Not many right now.

Bollywood is so Punjabi that all these Bong actresses had to become honorary Punjabis by marriage to fit in. 😆

Konkana is Mrs. Ranveer Shorey
Kajol is Mrs. Devgan
Rani is Mrs. Chopra 2.0
Mr. Bachchan is half Punjabi too.
