no matter what the fate of the film but no one can deny that fact that she is a risk taker n didnt have to produce films at this stage of her career...she is doing it for her love of cinema...you only succeed when you try..and sometimes u fail along the way...which is okay...

I want this film to succeed for Anushka because she is such a great actress and a risk taker. She deserve this success. Also, the film looks interesting and I feel this will open a way for more female centric films to come.

These days the only mantra for any film to be counted in the hit category are the box office numbers and the successful run at the ticket windows. This week we have Anushka Sharma's Phillauri and it's hitting the screens tomorrow. Ever since the trailer has hit the web, there's a craze about the film's concept as Anushka plays the friendly BHOOT Shashi and even highlights the old-age myth of a maanglik getting married to a tree to get rid of the omen which will inflict on their partner post the marriage. The film also stars Diljit Dosanjh, Suraj Sharma and Mehreen Pirzada in the pivotal roles.

Today, Fox Star released a statement that the film has recovered INR 12 crore through satellite and music.

"The film's cost was absolutely correct and with us recovering Rs 12 crore already from satellite and music before the release of the film, Phillauri is a profitable venture. We are now eager to see the reaction of audiences and we are hopeful that they will embrace the film. It's a special film for us after back to back successes with Jolly LLB 2 and Badrinath Ki Dulhania, we are excited to be releasing Phillauri - a high concept film with a big heart. We were bowled over with the concept of the film and immediately decided to back it," said Vijay Singh, CEO, Fox Star Studios.

Figures:

Budget (Cost of Production) - INR 21 crore

Recovered through Satellite and Music - INR 12 Crore

Money needed to recover the cost of production: INR 9 crore

How much the film profits depends on the figures collected post the recovery. We reached out to the trade experts to know their prediction for the day 1 box office collection.

Here's what they have to say:

Akshaye Rathi (Film exhibitor and Distributor): "It's a very interesting film. It has got Anushka Sharma as the lead actor and who is already a popular actress. But, it's not a Sultan or a PK which will attract audience from every nook and corner. It will be selective, largely multiplexes which will see a wider release and it should have across 1200 screens pan India. Considering the appeal of the film, Phillauri would earn aroundINR 3 crore on the opening day."

Amod Mehra: "If it's like INR 2 crore, it will be a miracle. There is no buzz absolutely. It must be only in the media. There is no evidence of advance booking as such. I don't see a very good opening but by the evening, if the word of the mouth is positive it might improve. We don't really know how boring or interesting the film is."

Atul Mohan: "The buzz around the movie is definitely positive but this is Anushka's solo. She has worked with Aamir, Shah Rukh, Salman in films like PK and Sultan, but the main attention was given to the Khans. The opening of the film might be good in Punjab taking Diljit Dosanjh's popularity in consideration. But for the rest of India, the film will have to heavily depend on the strong word of mouth. Fox Star has released that more than 50% of the investment has been recovered from satellite and music. If we take that in consideration, then film has to do INR 10 crore in terms of theatrical business to cover the cost and anything above is profit. The start would be better in North because of Diljit. I see the start of Day 1 be like INR 3 crore. It all depends on the content and if it's good, the film might do well over the weekend too."

Review: Phillauri, a Beautifully Told Love Story of a Ghost Bride

First things first. It's not a ghost story or a horror movie. It's the story of Shashi (Anushka Sharma) from a town named Phillaur, near the northern state of Punjab in India.

Yes, no doubt Anushka is the ghost bride who's waiting for her lover to come back to solemnise the wedding. Relive her story and the years that she waits in Phillauri, the movie.

Set in the backdrop of 19th century Punjab, the pre-Independence India where you are literally taken into the rustic villages of Punjab, folklores and folk songs make the set look really picturesque. Besides, the movie also shows the strong brother-sister bonding between Shashi and her on-screen brother.

The director does heavy usage of flashback technique to introduce the main plot, while the supporting cast does an honest performance throughout. Remarkably, the director blends age-old myths like marrying a tree will cut off the fault in the stars (a popular belief in the Indian Hindu tradition) quite well in the current age where selfie-struck families, too, conduct weddings with the tree to ward off ill effects.

The music of the movie has Sufi songs, too, that brings back the time the movie is set and infuses life to the love story quite well. Anushka Sharma, who's also one of the producers of the film, delivers a praise-worthy performance. However, the the award-winning movie of 2016 'Udta Punjab' actor Diljit Dosanjh steals the show with his acting and he literally takes you back to the pre-Independent India's Punjab during most of the songs, that are picturised on him.

Fox Star India has started the year 2017 on a great note. Jolly LL.B 2 and Badrinath Ki Dulhania have been superheats. Next in line is Phillauri.

You won't be disappointed if you are looking forward to a unique story. The movie has most of the elements that a movie aficionado would like to watch out for - a unique love story, music, fun and honest performances.

We know for sure, you'll be humming Sahiba' while coming out of the cinemas.

2nd half though is soulful & the past story is so beautiful!! Totally totally made up for the slowness of the first part!! I cried at the climax! It's a very simple and sweet, very human story.. quirky & funny in its storytelling style.
Im biased I won't deny it but I loved it enough to watch it again this evening :)

@RR - JJ promo came for 7th Apr release. The kids watching seemed to love it.

Made on a controlled budget (Rs.21 crore), Phillauri - which boasts of an A-lister Anushka Sharma leading the pack as an actor as well as a producer - is set to be a profitable venture soon after its release. The reason? It has already seen a recovery of Rs. 12 crore from the satellite and music medium, hence, requiring just Rs. 9 crore to be recovered from theatrical medium. The bottom-line? Anything over Rs. 20 crore for the film at the Box Office would begin to reap profits for Phillauri which also boasts of Diljit Dosanjh (the number one superstar in Punjab, where the film is actually set) giving company to Anushka.

Phillauri is seeing some smart marketing campaign for itself with Shashi, the character played by Anushka Sharma, paying a friendly ghost' visit to many in the industry. The latest being Shah Rukh Khan, who caught her on his couch at Mannat', no less!

Instead of going overboard on the number of screens and theatres, the film would be seeing a targeted release for itself this Friday.
