Anushka Sharma with her brother Karnesh
Content is king for Bollywood actress Anushka and her brother Karnesh Sharma, and they maintain the policy while making any film. After producing a thriller titled NH10 in 2015, their production house - Clean Slate Films came up with a romantic-comedy Phillauri this year. The brother-sister duo definitely has a knack of telling unique stories and slowly winning hearts of the audiences and critics alike for their ventures together.

Speaking exclusively to Mirror, Karnesh said, "We are extremely happy with the response Phillauri has been getting. We believe in making content driven films, yet making sure that the film is profitable to the investors."

Karnesh shared that the budget of Phillauri was just Rs 21 crore, and they are already making profits in less than a week since the release. Phillauri has recovered Rs 12 crore from satellite and music rights before the release of the film. With only Rs 9 crore to recover, the film started on a profitable note. The film earned Rs 1.81 crore on Wednesday (March 29), thus collecting a total amount of Rs 21.03 crore nett in six days.

When asked him how difficult it was to put their ideas together on the silver screen, Karnesh said, "Making films is never easy. Execution wasn't the tough part. We have a very good team of technicians and professionals involved in the film. But a lot of time was spent on getting the story and visual effects correct."

Anushka Sharma: I have reached here because of decisions I have taken

Anushka Sharma, who won hearts for playing Shashi, told Mirror, "I'm very happy with the audience response to our film- Phillauri. It is delightful that families are loving the film and watching it together making it truly a - fun, family entertainer which was always our endeavour. I have loved being a part of this journey right from the script stage to its post production and final release. Feel blessed that our efforts are resonating with the audience."

It can be rightly said that Anushka carved her niche for herself in the industry without any godfather in the industry. Talking about Anushka as an actor and producer, Karnesh said, "Anushka is very courageous. She doesn't do films just for the sake of association. Till date, she has chosen content-driven cinema and carries the philosophy as a producer as well. As an actor, I am sure everyone agrees that she is phenomenal. She has a wide range and can do every genre of films. As a producer it is breaking stereotype, which is encouraging."

Asked him if they had creative differences, Anushka's brother said, "As you grow in experience, you also learn to handle each other well. This is on the personal level. I think we got better at it during Phillaurithan we were in NH10." He added, "There's always room for difference of opinion because ultimately it is for the betterment of the film. So, a healthy debate has always happened towards things that we might not agree with each other. But it's not only me and her; there is a director, writer and other technicians involved in the decision making of the film."

He also maintained that there are no boundaries demarcated between them. Karnesh said, "Anushka and I are the kind of people where the boundaries are not needed to be drawn. Physically, at times she can't be present because of her other work commitments, but she is totally aware of what is happening on the film."

Navdeep Singh, who directed NH10, said, "Anushka and Karnesh's vision and conviction in going with out-of-the box ideas is rare in our industry and thereby thrilling for any creative person. If they continue with the same honesty of intent, the company has all the potential to be a creative powerhouse."

Karnesh concluded saying, "Both of us discovered our love for films while working on it. We believe in a new voice in cinema. Making films together has given us the joy to express ourselves. That is something very heartening and we want to continue for a long time."

Naam Shabana records decent opening and Phillauri flops at the box-office

SPEED NEWS DESK| Updated on: 1 April 2017, 12:47 IST
Naam Shabana and Phillauri

Naam Shabana had a decent opening at the box-office as the film raked in around Rs 5 crore on its first day.

The Taapsee Pannu film was benefitted a bit by Akshay Kumar's presence in trailer as well as the promotional activities however it wasn't enough to help it record a very good opening day number. The decent number is majorly due to the wide release on 2100 screens as the occupancy level through-out the country was low at approximately 25%.

The distribution rights of Naam Shabana has been sold for a comparatively high rates and it is essential for the film to not just show growth over the weekend but also record steady trend on the weekdays to sail through.

Last week's release, Phillauri has flopped at the box-office as the film has crashed on its second Friday. The Anushka Sharma film raked in around 50 lakhs on Friday taking the 8 day total to Rs 23 crore. The film is looking to end its run at the box-office at collections close to Rs 25 crore. Producers Fox Star Studios will just about break-even, however that is due to non-theatrical revenue which does not play much of a role in deciding the box-office verdict.
