I , even at his worst, will call Rahul silly. Anjali was a pretty good character! She was always in love with Rahul, all her life. But Rahul didn't reciprocate it. Yet she was an extremely important part of his life. Why do you think he named her daughter Anjali long after she was gone? Deep down, he always loved her but never realized it. For him, she was one of his guy buddies..with whom he could play basketball and do all sorts of mischief! He was a silly, typical 20+ wannabe cool dude who wanted a hot gf!
But deep down, it was Anjali who was his soulmate! This movie actually depicted a better story of unrequited love than Adhm.
And as to why, Anjali turned down Aman- because the heart wants what the heart wants! She was never in love with him...so how is that shallow? She would have been shallow, had she chosen a single , handsome Aman over a father of a 9 year old, even though she never really loved Aman! That would have been selfish.
And KKHH is misogynistic! Ahh things you learn everyday!

I somewhat agree with you. Though I disagree about Rahul being silly. I think most people who have watched this film don't get his character...or don't see him the way I do.

See (for me), Rahul was not JUST the quintessential college 'jock'/popular guy character. He was more (and was a layered character unlike Anjali :P)...So it pretty much goes without saying that Anjali was the character I had issues with. But more on that later if time permits.😆

Rahul was also always in love with Anjali (since college days) subconsciously, but he didn't realise it back then because he was really immature at that point. He always took her presence in his life for granted. That's why he broke down so when she left college...that scene in train station was done so well. I don't think a person will react like that if a platonic friend leaves. At that point maybe, all three characters (Rahul, Anjali & Tina) were at this juncture in life when the ladies both understood their place in the life of their respective lover. But Rahul only began to understood then what Anjali really means to him (IMO). But he didn't really bother changing the status quo with Anjali cuz he probably didn't want to hurt Tina cuz he had already gone too far with her. But unlike Aman (for Anjali), Tina wasn't a compromise for Rahul. He genuinely liked her...

Anyway, as he gained maturity with age, Rahul probably understood fully that he actually loved Anjali all along...so his philosophy about loving only once is not false.😆 Cuz he only ever loved Anjali. You could see him demonstrating his affection for Anjali after his mom inquires about Anjali and the way he described her spoke volumes. He kept saying 'meri Anjali'. 😆 You don't talk like that about a platonic friend, lol.

And the final clue is in the ladki badi anjaani hai song...when Rahul & Anjali BOTH reminisced their college days & imagined the college version of each other/daydreaming. That pretty much proved that he has loved/had strong feelings for her since then (and did not just fall for her after the makeover).😛 And I can't recall the exact lyric at the moment, but when Rahul imagined Anjali, the lyric was something along the lines of him being alone in the crowd...

Suffice to say, I don't Rahul superficial/shallow at all. 😆 And his single dad act got me 'awwing' majorly too. Cutest dad ever.<3 But that maybe due to my general bias for fatherly type characters on screen...😳

He always had loved Anjali deep down but never realized it before she went away..Anjali's mom wanted her to get married so she was fulfilling her wish...Her heart still wanted Rahul...So Aman was a compromise...I still watch the film now...And yes I do not think either of the characters were shallow

but that is exactly my point

aman was a compromise..why?

what wrong did aman do to get a compromise from someone in name of marriage..she had her past..fair enough and her reasons to marry..fair enough..but why drag some one else in this..she just wasn't honest about her feelings to aman..she was marrying him for all the wrong reasons and that was unfair to him..

See many people do this...if their hearts are broken they move on...they marry and settle..she would have also done the same...her mom wanted her to marry and she could not refuse...so after Sajan Ji Ghar Aaye her mom told her that she had never thought her daughter will compromise..she also explained her that a marriage based on compromise may not work...and then she told do what u feel best...If Rahul had not come she would have married Aman

Deep down he always loved Anjali and didn't realize it until she went away? But still went on to marry Tina and love her with all his heart? What if Tina never died? What kind of a hot mess is this?😳...
Of course Rahul is shallow...koi shaq?

While on the other hand, I would call Anjali a weak female...someone who has no self respect!

Hum ek baar jeete hain, ek baar marte hain, pyaar bhi ek baar karte hain aur shaadi bhi.
Somebody clarified here that he wasn't wrong to say this cuz he only ever loved Anjali. Arey shaadi toh do baar ho gayi na par!!! 😆

*breaking news*
Film Has Fictional Characters That Are Flawed 😲

These things do happen. Sometimes you don't fancy someone who is scruffy or awkward and not well presented. But when they take care of themselves, you take notice.
Some people do get married because they waited for the "right one" but it didn't work out and rather than be left "on the shelf" they decide to bite the bullet.
I wouldn't do that. But I understand some people have different views to mine.

I certainly don't have any problems with these elements of KKHH. The film was thoroughly entertaining to me 19 years as it is now.

Not only characters mian plot of the movie itself flawed. If Rahul and Tina marry after they finish their studies Anjali also going to marry in near future right if not right way. Then Tina dies after her delivery. So at least it's been one year after they marry. So why Tina writes letter to her daughter asks her Mil to give that her when she becomes 8 yrs old? Why is she thinking Anjali is not going to marry until that time? If she wants to unite Anjali and Rahul she needs to ask her Mil to do it right away before Anjali moves on with her life not after 8 years. Absurd.
