Ranveer was not brought up in America, he studied there. As for being sophisticated, Mira Rajput was all of 21 years when she came into the spotlight and she came as a fully formed person who came across as sophisticated with a great dress sense. I will admit to being skeptical that the way she presented herself was not an act. Three or so years, she is still the same person. So yeah, if I did not learn it before Mira Rajput taught me that one can be "sophisticated" and brought in Delhi. But difference is authentic. So being sophisticated has nothing to do with being brought up in USA or Delhi, it is family background and circumstances. But authenticity is what matters.

People who go to the US are more famous for putting on fake accents, pretending to forget to speak their native tongue in an effort to look more sophisticated. Been there, seen that. What I find more authentic is Ranveer who lived there is still tapori, still finds delight in Anil Kapoor masala songs and Govinda movies. I will admit to being skeptical as to the authenticity of his actions because I am more used to people shedding putting on the fake accent variety. But all these years on, he is who he is. Be it in America or India, Mumbai or Manhattan the same guy. That is authenticity and it is worth a whole lot than the fake sophistication DP works hard to put on to me. The thing is, it falls flat before people like Saif and Mira who are actually like that and in BW it is very easy to figure out and frankly laughable. So yeah, have to disagree that DP is superior. Ranveer certainly is not, but what he is his unapologetically himself and that to me is rare especially in BW.

I agree with this. I have watched Ranveer give serious interviews during Lootera promotions and he is ray articulate in not just English but also Hindi(which so many of these stars hate speaking for whatever reason). The fact that he has graduated from an American undergrad, grew up in South Mumbai and yet can trick people into thinking he is a Sadak chaap tapori to me is very interesting, testament to his ability to morph into whatever he chooses to show the world.
