Yeah.Many in the USA still think India as a land of tantra mantra snake charmers,everyone is poor uneducated conservative I'm India.Have you seen how Raj from tbbt talks about India? It's too crowded too less space people take cow ki kasam etc.Some jokes are downright offensive.
