Mahira Khan finally jumps on to the 'Raees' promotions bandwagon with Shah Rukh Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui

'Raees' star Shah Rukh Khan, along with his co-star Nawazuddin Siddiqui and the film's producer Ritesh Sidhwani addressed a press conference to celebrate the film's global success. The surprise element was the presence of Pakistani actress Mahira Khan, the film's leading lady, who couldn't promote the film due to the ban imposed on Pakistani artists in India.
Mahira joined in via video call, and started off by admitting that the video-call experience was very exciting for her. On being asked if she had any fears before 'Raees' released, Mahira said, "I had this big fear that people will root for Shah Rukh's character and not me. But once the film released, all my fears were put to rest by the response that I received, which has been completely fantastic and I am very grateful."
Mahira recalled how it was shooting with the Badshah of Bollywood for her very first Hindi film, "He spoiled me a lot. It was like a dream come true. I wonder how can someone work with anyone else after working with him. SRK always used to make us laugh even before a serious scene, due to which we simply couldn't keep a straight face for the camera."
Recounting her arrival in Mumbai, for the shoot, Mahira joked, "When I reached the Mumbai Airport, I thought I'd be greeted by Shah Rukh running towards me, with his arms open. But that didn't happen." She also added that she is unaware of the film's collections.
Shah Rukh was asked how does he feel that so many actresses like Deepika Padukone, Anushka Sharma and now Mahira Khan have debuted opposite him, and have gone on to become major stars of our times, "Deepika was already working in South. Anushka was also into modelling, and Mahira was acting before as well. All three of them were working before debuting in a film with me."
Mahira was asked about her first time doing the filmi dance for 'Udi Udi Jaaye', "I had to rehearse a lot and the choreographers helped me immensely."
SRK, on the other hand, found the song to be a tough one, "It was a tough song. I've never done garba in my 25 years in the film industry. I had to work hard for it. I am more of a performer, whereas Nawazuddin and Mahira are great actors. Picking up the beats of a song comes naturally to them."
Nawazuddin expressed mild displeasure at not having many scenes with Mahira. "I wanted to be a part of the 'Zaalima' song just to have some more scenes with her." he joked.
SRK said he feels that they have made "a universally correct movie". "We held focus groups, before the film's release and according to their response, a few scenes and a song have been cut from the movie."
Ritesh Sidhwani joked that Mahira thought we will cross the 100 crore mark on the very first day. "But we weren't making a film with Salman Khan or Aamir Khan" he added.
Mahira claimed that the dialogues were the best part of 'Raees', particularly "Main dharam ka dhandha nahi karta" and "Saboot le aaiye, Raees ko le jaaiye." Her favourite song from the film was the Arijit Singh chartbuster 'Zalima'. Mahira signed off by saying "The film will soon release in Pakistan and people here are dying to watch it. I have full faith that people would go and watch 'Raees'."
