Having a degree does not make you smarter or a better person, in any sort of way. In fact University is all fun and games, when you graduate and step into the real world, you have no idea what hit you, at least I didn't. Some of the smartest people I know, never finished school. The 6 years I spent having 'Fun' in school, they grew their businesses and became huge 'enterpeneurs'...so there is no right or wrong way to success.

Bill is a harvard dropout
Ted is a brown dropout
Jobs is a Stanford-Reed dropout
Mark is a harvard dropout
Dhirubhai had to leave his education to support his house when his dad fell sick. He had to built his way to the top from the very very bottom. mukesh his son has a degree in chemical engineering and a stanford dropout.

Not saying that you need a degree to be smart but not everyone can be the next mark or steve. Yes many people are entrepreneurs but even they get their accounts and taxes done by people who have degrees from business schools. Their lawyers studied from major law schools. Yes you dont need a degree to start a business but you need people with big degrees to keep that business afloat. Im sure facebook n reliance doesnt have lawyers n CA's who are dropouts.

my uncle doesnt have a degree but he is the smartest person i know. and he even runs his own business. But the one think he always tells us is that he regrets not graduating because he has to take help from other people for certain things because he never went to school.

I never meant that. I never said education makes people mean. What I meant to say is that just a degree does not showcase a person's ability as SRK said "If you aren't a graduate, I believe you can't be an actor". How come being graduate has to do with someone's acting ability? or dancing ability? or singing ability? or painting ability? or some other ability? Unless the graduation is done on that particular field?

EDUCATION and KNOWLEDGE is not equivalence of degree. Degree is sometimes earned for your own satisfaction like your Mom did. Sometimes it's done to secure job. There is nothing wrong in getting a degree but it is not a measuring scale to determine one's ability.

I myself have Masters degree from one of the IITs and have cleared CSIR-NET JRF and I also got a chance of pursuing PhD in the IIT but I am not pursuing PhD because I don't feel enough passionate towards the subject anymore. So I am not sure if I can keep on doing work for 5/6/7 years. But that does not mean those who are pursuing PhD are useless to me. I have worked with research scholars for my project so I know how hard it is. And I did masters from my sheer love for the subject and earned it.

But it does not determine whether I have acting/dancing/singing/painting ability or not neither it tells that after. Also It does not tell whether I am good person or not. But it tells perhaps I have some proficiency in the subject.

I did not mean to mock anybody who have degrees. I apologies to you and others who felt that way. Whatever I told was from my own experience because I have understood that real education is something else which degrees can't provide but degrees are indeed necessary for certain professions.

Indian education is different and laser focused on the one subject that you're getting a degree in so I can understand if you think it doesn't help an actor. But in America, where SRK's kids would be studying, no matter what major you pursue, there are lots of general education requirements in various subjects. For example, I knew many engineering students who had to take electives in creative writing and drama. Others choose to take a class in astronomy or wine-tasting or whatever. American universities are all about making a well-rounded individual and not just someone who knows how to practice a specific trade.

The more knowledge you acquire in different fields and more ways you excite your brain, the more likely you are to develop as a human being - which IS very important in terms of acting and feeling.

Of course it's not necessary but when you can afford it, nothing can prepare your mind like education.

I agree totally! College education makes you a well rounded human being, ready to take up any challenges of life!
College education is important, its not just abt reading books but preparing you for adult life in the outside world!
It gives you confidence and maturity, understanding of events and a more comprehensive world view.

People may consider it just a piece of paper but it takes so much to earn that degree and they cannot understand it.

true! srk spoke like a true middleclass guy here, i totally support him,
even i am from middleclass and we know how a basic degree is very important,

not just as a backup but as an experience, you learn something significant

Abraham Lincoln one of the most intelligent Presidents America has had was self-educated. I guess if your exceptionally talented you don't need to finish school. Like Steve Jobs, Bill Gates ext.. But for most people who are not born into rich star families and are not exceptionally intelligent we need degrees to get ahead. It use to be different in the 50s at least in America you could go to an office and do some repetitive work. But with automation on rise having a degree for a middle class life has become more essential.

I do agree having a college education gives you a better perspective on life. Not sure reading books can do that. But I am a believer in self-education as well.

Will Suhana Khan also meet the same fate as Tanisha and Esha Deol?

I feel she will end up just like them because Suhana really lacks the looks, glamour and talent! I mean she’s just NOT cut out for the glamour...
