BENGALURU: 'Namma Deepika (Padukone)' (as Kiran Mazumdar Shaw introduced her) hogged the limelight as she took on the IIMBue stage on Saturday. Amid hoots and whistles, the Bollywood queen entered the stage for the last session of the day.
The Bengaluru girl recalled days of visiting her grandfather's house in Malleswaramand going to CTR for the "best benne masala dosa". Deepika soon turned forthright about her views when asked what she thought about certain political issues that resulted in boycott of her colleagues like Aamir Khan in the past.
"Why is the film industry a bench mark for everything? It doesn't depend on the industry to come together but every individual person. It's about us being different kinds of people. I speak about something I know I could make a difference to. Politics is not one of them," she said.
Asked if she had ever experienced discrimination within the film industry, the actor said: "It's not something I thought in terms of man or woman but what I can bring to the table and what I deserve. That's the kind of environment I grew up in, for I always knew I'm not a woman trying to find a place in a man's world. Piku made me realize about the writing talent in our country. Doing as well as it did gives hope to upcoming writers. Working with Amitabh Bachchan is always a great experience. For me, he was the perfect father figure."
