I'd say he did benefit, if not all the fame - he did earn money. And, acting experience in Bollywood must've added to his own personal development whether one chooses to acknowledge it or not.
And, I'd say it's a loss for Bollywood - he's one gem of a good actor.

Both benefitted, both lost.. now. (IMO)

Fawad did benefit from Bollywood, but the recent controversy has kind of negated it...
Bollywood has a far reach and that way Fawad definitely gained. The recent controversy added to it - there are articles in NYT, Huffington Post, WSJ, Canadian radio actor wants to interview him, BBC is running stories on this controversy... So yes a lot more people came to know about him...

But after the ban and the controversy the bollywood movie(s) he was supposed to work in has been shelved and hence its a monetary and professional loss for him. Hope he is able to make up for it elsewhere. If he really has the talent (which I believe he does), then he will be successful.

Let me jog your memory a little. Fawad is/was also an outsider and not a starkid.

By your logic, As far as outsiders are concerned, I am sure there are many outsiders who would be more than willing to warm KJo's bed to get even a 5 min role in a Dharma film... why is KJo not doing that?

His journey was aborted just when he was going to take a big leap in BW via KJO movie with Kat.

But did FK want a career via KJO? Wasn't he kind of loosing respect by being KJO's muse? Its good for his family that he escaped vile BW.

Fawad did one movie with KJo and was planned to do another... why is he being called a muse and not others (except Sid and SRK)? Varun is also doing/has done multiple movies with him and Ranbir is also the lead actor... And how does working with a popular Bollywood actor make him lose his respect? For God's sake, he does not even spend as much time in Mumbai as the rest of BW...

It's a two-way street. Both benefited from each other. Fawad got 10x wider audience, bigger reach, big money, fame etc. Bollywood got a good actor and a great looker, better than any of its current leading men; and a gutsy actor in fact, he was perhaps the first BW actor to do a serious homosexual lead role in a popular film, turned down by many chicken Indian actors.

no he is not the first BW actor to do a serious homosexual lead role... and it was gutsy..but I would have called it more gutsy if it wasn't too subtle...even kjo said they made it too subtle...but perhaps keeping the pakistani audience in mind even this too subtle potrayal was gutsy
