I beg to differ on one point - I think the portrayal was more realistic and yes it was subtle too. In most of our families such things - sexual orientation, menstruation and anything related to sex or even gynacological issues are talked about in a subtle way. So any movie targetting family crowd has to be treated that way

However, you are right in saying that there have been other homosexual performances that are credit worthy and the latest case being that of Manoj Bajpai... but it got an "A" (adult) certification because of which many people for whom watching movies is a family outing did not go and watch the movie in theater...

Both kinds of movies are required, both have different target audience and the story has to be told keeping the target audience in mind

He may have...but now the damage(in terms of how he will be made fun of, in Pakistan and how he has been insulted in India)seems to be more than the benefit and he is just in the beginning of his career, be it in India or in Pakistan...Such an unfortunate actor whose fate turned literally overnight!

Good to see you agree he was gutsy. The subtlety part was answered by Serontonin already. Regarding whether he was the first, I didn't say hewas the first to do a homsoexual lead role, read again. I said a serious homosexual lead role in a popular, mainstream big film. Most other such films have been small films with a niche audience. But Karan took it mainstream and made possible a realistic portrayal of a gay man without mocking or making fun of the gay community, unlike what he did in Dostana.

Of course he did...he made way more money than he would in his country and people recognize him more now and people saying that he was already popular because of his dramas then please don't forget that his dramas became popular only after getting aired on zindagi an indian channel.

So i will say despite the controversies he has grabbed all the attention and money that he could within a limited time.

I do not think his career is being affected, he has a very stable career in Pakistan too, plus his international Fanbase is not because he did two BW films, but since his drama days. Yes his career would have got a booster if he would settle down with BW films, but it is not going to happen. It is a loss for BW, not technically but in productive terms, for example he is somebody who is out of the box but still had the baritone and charm to carry most stereotypical bollywood roles, which would bring back the charm of the 90s heroism we all have loved. He was different from the current young brigade, that gave him an edge and that was the reason why Dharma films had bet on him, he would be a new name for romance if given good offers as Bollywood lacks that hero which SRK was during 90s, or which Aamir was when he debuted.
