Ajay Devgn: Sacrificed a lot for 'Shivaay'

Actor-producer Ajay Devgn says his upcoming film 'Shivaay' won't hurt any religious sentiments as the movie deals with human elements of Lord Shiva. Ajay, who has also directed the movie, said he is not portraying Shiva but a common man, who is a devotee of the God. "There is no religion (angle in the film). I am not portraying Shiva. If you see my lines also, 'jiske bheetar basa Shivaay', (means) who has Shiva in his heart. In the film also, he is not sitting and meditating and praying. He has got tattoos of Shiva all over his body and he is called Shivaay in the film," the 47-year old 'Drishyam' star said in an interview on the sidelines of the film's trailer launch in Indore.

Ajay said Shiva was the only God who had flaws and that was an interesting concept to toy with. "The thought is, man who believes in the supernatural power. Shiva, I feel, is the only God which also connects to today's youth. Every other God is flawless, Shiva is the only god with all the flaws. "He smokes, drinks 'bhang', when he gets wild, he will kill randomly, then he will realise that he has made a mistake, people can fool him also. He is good by heart..When he gets violent, he is terrible. This is what humans are. Shiva, I feel is the only God which has all the elements," the actor said.

This much-ambitious project took two years to complete and Ajay said the film needed special attention as he didn't want to make "mediocre" stuff. "I am bored of making films which are mediocre. We have to raise the bar. Somebody has to make an effort. For that you have to make lots of sacrifices. I have not worked for the past two years in any other film." The actor cut his fee too for the movie as he believed the grand scale of 'Shivaay' needed sacrifices from him.

"Technically, people will think I've lost so much of revenue because I've not worked. In a film like this, to make it on this scale, if I would've kept my remuneration as an actor and a director, I don't think that was possible. So, that also, I sacrificed." When asked how did the idea to make 'Shivaay' struck him, Ajay said it was writer Sandeep Srivastava who came up with a thought which was inspired from a true incident."There was a thought which Sandeep my writer had, which was inspired from a true incident. Not that I made (the film on) true incident but it was inspired from there, we had read an article. From there, I thought the emotional ground was very strong. It's not about the story, it's about the screenplay. So that's how it started." Ajay is making a return to direction after eight years. His last directorial venture was romantic drama 'U Me aur Hum', which had him and wife Kajol in lead roles. The film didn't do well at the box-office and the actor feels it was because people didn't have an idea about Alzheimer's disease on which the movie was based.

"The kind of response I got for 'U Me aur Hum', here the emotional drama was concerned, you'll see some articles stuck in my office also..It did very well in overseas and urban market. "But you can't call it a blockbuster because half the country didn't understand what Alzheimer's is." Meanwhile, 'Shivaay' is set to release on October 28. It also stars newcomers Sayyeishaa Saigal and Erica.

Ajay Devgn: Each song in 'Shivaay' takes the story forward

Actor-filmmaker Ajay Devgn has ensured that he goes the extra mile for his forthcoming film, 'Shivaay'. The title track, 'Bolo Har Har Har', took almost a year to create. In fact, Ajay got composer Mithoon to work on the music while the movie was still in the pre-production stage.

Talking about 'Bolo Har Har Har', which releases on all platforms today, he says, "When you haven't shot the film, you need to excite the technicians with the story and visualisation. I asked Mithoon to explore the sound for a movie which is a combination of action, emotion and drama, along with the tenets of Lord Shiva. Each song takes the story forward. Shivaay's soundtrack is all encompassing with different emotions just like the film." While creating the title track, which is contemporary yet rooted in tradition, the composer researched different sounds and recorded diverse effects live.

Ajay says, "We even imported the future soundscape which is part of the sound forecast for 2017. We have created sound patterns in the track. If you listen carefully, you will visualise geometrical designs in sound waves." What also makes the song different is the eclectic mix of artistes like rapper Badshah, tribal strong vocalist Megha Sriram Dalton and singers Mohit Chauhan and Sukhwinder who have collaborated on it. Ajay adds, "They have brought their strengths in their own genre." Though he was keen that viewers watch the number only on the big screen, he wanted to ensure that they listen to it immediately. "Once a track like this is made, you can't store it in a box. So, I decided to create a special music video that gets the right emotions of the song and release it," he explains.

Ajay Devgn selected 'Shivaay' crew from across the globe

While it's known that Ajay Devgn's 'Shivaay' stars two foreign actresses " Erika Kaar(Poland) and Abigail Eames (United Kingdom) " in pivotal roles, not many know that foreign technicians constitute the majority of his crew as well. During the two years that he spent doing recce in Canada, Poland, Italy, Serbia and Austria " before finalising Bulgaria's snow-peaked locales " Ajay personally chose each and every member of his crew.

The result: Apart from Indians, team 'Shivaay' comprises specialists from US, UK, Canada, France, Germany, Poland, Bulgaria, Austria, Sweden, Korea, Vietnam and Turkey. Exemplifying unity in diversity, the entire unit worked in tandem, shooting in minus 25 degrees celsius temperatures. They are highly talented, too.

In fact, some sequences of the action adventure drama have been shot with experts who have worked on Hollywood films like 'The Hunger Games: Mockingjay', 'The Expendables', 'The Mechanic' and 'The Constant Gardener'.

Sayyeshaa Saigal, the juvenile star in Bollywood, grandniece of Saira Banu and Dilip Kumar is a fresh face in Bollywood. Sayyeshaa is making her her first Bollywood debut with the senior artist of industry Ajay Devgan in Shivaay.

The 19-year-old actress has now crossed her fingers and hoping best by her first release of the silver screen. Since she enters in the Indian Cinematic Industry last her with her first release in Telugu debut Akhil in 2015 starer Akhil Akkineni and Sayyeshaa Saigal.

She was quoted as saying that as the movie date is coming closer, the only insecurity she has is whether the audience will like her or not. She further added as she does not have an alternative career option than this, she hopes that the movie will work for her.

She calls it an experience in itself to be sharing screen space with Devgn and being directed by him. "Although Ajay (sir) is this huge star, he's so down to earth. His humility is one of his strongest points. He doesn't have airs of a superstar," says Sayyeshaa, who is Dilip Kumar and Saira Banu's grandniece.

She was all of 16 and studying when she auditioned for the film. "Ajay (sir) had seen my pictures and he wanted to give me a screen test. I got a call from his office; they told me about the role and asked to come for the test. It was my first camera interaction," she recalls, adding, "Though he (Devgn) was not there for the audition, I knew that he would watch it. I was just myself and I guess he liked that about me and signed me for the role."

The actor also says that working with Devgn was a cakewalk. "We were doing our first scene in Mussoorie and it was an emotional sequence. Initially, I thought I'd probably be nervous, but Ajay (Sir) makes you feel so comfortable. Maybe that's why I could give my best and did a great job," says the 19-year-old.

She adds, "As a director, he's exactly what he wants, not only from the acting point of view but technical too. We had a six-camera setup and Ajay (sir) would be operating one camera himself, and not many actors can do that."

Sayyeshaa says, "Even if there was any stress on the sets, he'd remain calm and composed. Anyway, he doesn't speak that much, so he won't make you feel something is going wrong and would sort the issue on his own."

Says Sayyeshaa, "My favorite films of my grandmother are Purab Aur Paschim' and Padosan'. I won't be able to do what she did, but I would like to be a part of Purab Aur Paschim' if it is remade. It would be great if Ranbir Kapoor is cast opposite me."

The newbie shudders at the thought of being compared to Sairaji. "Though I might look like her, please don't compare us. She had a style of her own. I won't be able to live up to her legacy and body of work. I want to be accepted without being compared to anyone."

In a way, Sayyeshaa is relieved that her dinner-table conversations don't revolve around movies. "My grandmother has seen the trailer of Shivaay', but we don't talk about films. Our conversations are more about traveling, as my family loves to travel. I also discuss shopping with her. She is glamorous and owns the finest of things. She has beautiful shawls that she wants me to use," she says.

The debutante also admits that she feels the pressure to live up to her family's name and reputation. "There is no pressure from them, but I still feel it. I know people expect me to be a good actress. My grandfather (Dilip Kumar) has done great work, and I can't even be compared to his toenail. Also, I have to maintain the respectability that my family has earned over the years," she concludes.

Reasons why Shivaay will beat ADHM

Both Shivaay and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil has been creating histories ever since it was announced that both the films will be released on the same day. Neither Karan Johar (Ae Dil Hai Mushkil) nor Ajay Devgn (Shivaay) were ready to take a step back and both of them decided to release their respective films on the same day. SO far so good. Then came the mud-slinging episode where a certain wannabe named KRK alleged that he has been bribed by Karan Johar for bad-mouthing Ahay Devgn's film Shivaay. Bollywood was divided in two camps. These and many more reasons which make both Shivaay and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil a must-watch. Also why Shivaay may score over ADHM.

The buzz and controversy around Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Shivaay cease to die. While the films have divided the entire Bollywood into two camps it has also generated interest in both the films

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's extra bold scenes with much younger Ranbir Kapoor may also get a thumbs' down from the audience. The extra boldness may irk Aish fans as all that she is experimenting with post her motherhood have been going kaput. this desperation of Aish may also be turned down.

Ajay Devgn is a reliable name like Akshay Kumar and has a loyal fan-following. Except Anushkha Sharma all lead stars of ADHM have been witnessing a rough patch of their career.

OMG! Kamaal R Khan Supports Ranbir Kapoor's Ae Dil Hai Mushkil & Grills Ajay Devgn's Shivaay!

Kamaal R Khan posted a series of tweets on Ranbir Kapoor's Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Ajay Devgn's Shivaay.

Ranbir Kapoor is all set to lock horns with Ajay Devgn on October 28, 2016 as their films, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Shivaay respectively are going to release on the same day. It would be really interesting to see which film will emerge as a winner at the box-office war. But before that, look what Kamaal R Khan has to say about both the films.

I don't associate it with anything personal and it was just a professional part of the film making process. Mumbai: Actor-filmmaker Ajay Devgn says he fears losing stardom and it would affect him if he stops receiving love from his fans.

"I fear losing my stardom. Yes, you do have that fear ... at the end of the day, you get this habit of getting love from people and suddenly if it stops, it really affects you," Ajay told IANS.

"I think I have opened up. I have been forced to open up, but still I think I am quite reserved," added the 46-year-old.

He also believes that once you get love of the audience, some films work and some films don't. "That's part of the business," said Ajay, who is busy promoting his forthcoming film Shivaay.

The movie marks acting debut of Sayyeshaa Saigal, grand niece of veteran actor Dilip Kumar.Shivaay will release on October 28.

What happened when Kajol tried to teach Ajay Devgn Marathi?

Ajay Devgn is leaving no stone unturned for his upcoming movie Shivaay which is all set to hit the big screen this Diwali on 28th October. Today, Ajay and Kajol were on the sets of a Marathi show Chala Hawa Yeu Dya' on Zee Marathi for promoting Shivaay.

Bubbly and chirpy wife Kajol tried to lighten up her hubby's mood by teaching him Marathi. Just a few minutes before the shoot, Kajol went LIVE from her Facebook page so that all her fans could watch her pulling his leg. She taught him the lines, "Chala Hawa Yeu Dya" and Ajay sportingly repeated the words. But the funny guy that he is, he got back at Kajol by saying "Aata Maazi Satakli" and they headed for the shoot.

The episode airs next week.
