No offense but this notion that they're going against public sentiment is quite manufactured by the self proclaimed nationalists out there. There are plenty of people in India who know how to differentiate between artists and terrorists. There are plenty of us who know that what has happened in the past few weeks has nothing to do with Mahira or Fawad or any other artist from Pakistan who's working in Bollywood. Yes, there are some oh so "patriotic" journalists on television who'll shout and scream to make everyone think their word is the only word out there but that ain't true.
I hope this is not true! This would be pathetic decision to say the least if it's true! And this is coming from someone who has been eagerly waiting for Raees ever since the teaser came out but I definitely don't support a ridiculous decision like this i.e if it's true. People are living in a fool's paradise if they think replacing Mahira or Fawad is the solution here. Infact these folks would be setting a bad precedent if they end up doing that (again if it's true). Today it's about artists from Pakistan, tomorrow it'd be about the storyline or the theme of the movie, where would this stop! Not to mention Shahrukh has already faced this bull with MNIK and Dilwale and he stood his ground on both occasions. So it'd end up reflecting him in an extremely poor light if he is on board with a decision like this i.e IF this is true.
No, I think the anger against Pak right now is very much genuine and a reality among Indians (speaking from personal experience all around me)..it's not manufactured by 'nationalists' or journalists. Media can create a hullaboo but people aren't stupid enough to get swayed by it unless they themselves already agree. This anger has been built up over the years...Uri attack was basically a breaking point like 26/11 was.
I also think people are smart enough to understand that this is not a solution to the problem, that Fawad/Mahira aren't responsible...art is a soft target...that these movies have mainly Indian folks and it's only Indians who are going to suffer because of whatever happens. Pak artists get banned? Ok whatever...they'll get work in Pak like they always used to..big deal. Who actually suffers? The Indian cast and crew. I think people also realize that soldiers don't care what movie anyone is watching or whose in it...and they have bigger and more important worries. We can support soldiers in other more helpful ways. I think people also realize that spreading hateful propaganda doesn't do anything in the long run..after all united we stand, divided we fall. Everyone knows MNS/SS are just goondas. But I think people see these protests as a symbol of their displeasure and a symbol of being united with the Army/India.
Personally, I think there are better ways to show support..but I understand the anger. I think if they really want to ban, they should make it permanent. This back and forth is annoying.
