By that logic, every Rohit Shetty film should be called Golmaal 1,2,4,5,6,7,8, etc.
Coz they'er comedy, have Rohit Shetty touch, and are similar.
DIlwaale, should be called Golmaal 4. Chennai should be called Golmaal 5, etc.

If that's the criteria, there would only be a handful of Hindi film titles, coz every filmmaker would continue to make films with the same name with a number added. And those films will have nothing in common. They'll be as common as Jab We Met is to DDLJ

It's Bollywood in general, they're idiots when it comes to sequels.

Its upto the movie maker how they encash a successful movie as a franchise.

when budget is high llike golmaal or krish they can carry the same story forward or same set of actors. Rohit shetty have those golmaal series so also have altogether different movies.

For low budget movie it help them by saving their promotion and adverting cost. like raaz ( horror with erotic) , jism (thriller with erotic etc.) movie they carry the same theme with altogether a different story. Both audience relate with that previous movie so also give a chance for producer for atleast a decent opening. similarly ashique or say tumbin 2 etc. Those low budget movies are benefiting from this till they able to milk the initial movie in squeal. When few sequels become flop they stop that franchisee having same brand name extention.

Regarding high budget movies they avoid sequels by just giving a name of movie like DDLJ etc as they can make altogether different movie with complete new product with a new name if there is different star cast different story . simply when actor/story different than for low budget movies those names are brand which they can encash further in sequels while for high budget those names are just simple movie name worth nothing.

These unrelated sequels are irritating ,still audience when he know what to expect in the sequel movie and producer in business, both are getting benefit why we should complain😆

I already know why they do that. My question is - do you consider it a sequel?

Krrish Series or Don or Dabangg are sequels. They continue the same story with same characters. Munnabhai, Housefull, Golmaal are different. I dont know which side to put Dhoom in. I really hope Tiger Zinda Hai is a real sequel to ETT in that it continues the story.
