Tum Bin 2?
Related to the original story? No
Same cast? No
Has ANYTHING in common? No

But let's claim it's a sequel by adding "2". Audiences will fall for it.

What is the criteria for classifying a sequel? I mean can any aira gaira just make a random story, take an old title, add a "2" to it and it becomes a sequel?

Same with Ashiqui 2 - it had NO connection to the original Ashiqui. It was just another love story that probably had more in common with other films. So why claim that it was a sequel?

Is it only coz it fools audiences into thinking it's somehow associated with a good successful film, therefore it must also be good? And it boosts BO returns?

it gives goodwill to second part and i dont think its wrong fr a prodducer to use that name. N ultimately its audience who decide outcome A2 was hit bcz it got clicked among masses, many sequels got trashed bcz they did not.. ultimately its in audience hands wt to see n what not, audience z not fool to fall prey to title only.
I genuinly think its fine as long as movie does not make a mockery of original one 😊 n is as good as original if not better.

May be it is to give an understanding to the audience what the movie would be about. For someone who watched Aashiqui, even though Aashiqui 2 is completely different, s/he will have an idea as to what the film will be about. So may be someone who really liked Aashiqui would turn up for part 2. Likewise for Tum Bin 2 and other movies.

Asiqui was a love story. Ashiqui 2 is a love story. So are 98% of Bollywood films.

How would you guys feel if tomorrow Karan Johar makes a love story in college and titles it "Kuch Kuch Hota Hai 2" or well..."Student of the Year 2" or...wait...both films are college romances.
Get the point?

Yes nothing is there in terms of continuity of story but they have some similarity of content theme etc. In terms of actual original movie yes they are mostly very different to sequel. Still they utilise a successful movie for further encashing them just like brand extension. Creative wise there are less similarity but makers are getting benefit in terms of business wise of initial curiosity , eyeball and people emotional attachment with previous movie. Just like kareena brag about kapooor lineage always, that might not helped her in later stage of career but in her initial phase of career certainly helped her in terms of recognition 😆 same for these movies.

I think the audience isn't so naive anymore but filmmakers think the audience is.

ashique movie carry a emotional love story with a bunch of super hit song , simiarity is there in ashique 2. its not like they will keep the same name with a horror movie story in the sequel. this help them to make a movie with minimum budget with free publicity and brand recognition.

A sequel is like Munnabhai series where they carried original theme or like Dabang 2.

A2 and TB2 are simply trying to cash success of part 1. It's easy to sell.
And yes, we are all fools Coz we immediately lap up these "2" as sequel , without thinking.
