I am a kid of South Indian parents who emigrated when we were young to the US, so movies were always a way for them to connect us with the motherland, Indian culture and most of all language. We would drive for hours sometimes just to watch a movie in a theater and it was always an event. For my parents, movies and music were always something that connected them powerfully back home.
In a sense, that is what South Indian movies represent for me. A feeling of "home" except in my case it is my childhood home with my parents and my memories of it. Bollywood is very much for SRK-Kajol and Hindi. I pretty much go for all their movies in a theater. The other two people I go for are Salman and Aamir. Rest based on reviews. But BW movies are more for me than my parents.
HW, I am more into Indies. But I have lots of friends and socializing over a movie is one of the things we do. I also watch European movies, but mostly Indies and they have helped me in improving my French and Spanish especially.
Different film industries represent different things to me but movies are a great love of mine 😳
