I think it was Juhi and Madhuri who said they used to sign films without even reading the script because there no scripts. They have come such a long way.

I think this current generation of actresses are still learning. They are seeing what they can get away with. They voice their opinions more, they demand more. They don't want to be ruled by powerful actors for the sake of fame.

I completely agree with 'They know everything except acting' and I would add dance.

We had far better actresses in the past, say Rani-Preity-Aish period. Kareena & Priyanka too made debut during those days.

I don't know why but none of them looks natural while acting. Earlier, even other actresses like Manisha, Urmila, Raveena, Tabu, Ayesha Jhulka, Revati etc... used to look natural in their acting.

But these ramp model-turned-actresses can hardly act.

The only running around trees role Sonam has done is PRDP..even there she wasn't exactly doing that..all her other movies had pretty good roles for her barring BMB cameo..

Sonakshi, Katrina have done what is called a flowerpot role..

And if u read her interview..her logic for doing PRDP before Neerja makes lot of sense

I miss the old charming actresses of the 90's, be it Madhuri, Kajol , Aish , Juhi. I for one cannot connect with any of the current actresses. 😆

Its a combination of a couple of things.

Talented actresses were there before too. But very films were being made to tap their full potential. It was solely left for the actress to decide to pursue commercial vs. parallel cinema. Hence all those "talented" ladies did the best they could in a commercial cinema format. Romantic roles... blah blah.

A viable middle ground didn't exist until like 4-5 years ago (notably Vidya tasting success). Better roles are being written for women now due to the rise of brave filmmakers, a discerning multiplex audience and also the involved social media generation. The current lot is just making the best of it.

Vidya found success and critical acclaim in 2009-12 timeframe for her choices. But still other actresses felt it was a "one-off" strategy suited to her only. They continued doing Dons, Singhams, Bodyguards, HNYs, Zanjeer etc.

It was only due to the surprise success of "Queen" and its impact in reviving Kangana's almost dead career in a BIG WAY- that all the other contemporaries started to ante up their A-game. TWMR & Piku's commercial success last year further reinforced this.

Compare the kind of films DP/PC/Anu have signed post March 2014 vs. let's say Dirty Picture success era. All of the films had them in solid roles... they left their Khan package deal 😆

The fact is today all actresses have realized that there is an alternative success path like Neerja. Therefore, they all want to call their own shot and chart their own course.

I'm HAPPY for each one of them. They are breaking the glass ceiling in their own way. 👏
