So here is WHY the meet happened. đ
As SLB worked on his two page script with Prakash Kapadia, he couldn't envision the currently rumored actors Deepika and Ranveer in the lead roles any more. Plus, there was Ratan Singh... who was a difficult cast too. He called Kangana and they met over dinner.
During dinner, he asked her how she managed to do her twin act without much shor shoraba prior to release and see much success commercially and critically. She spilled the beans. By the end of the long conversation, SLB was convinced that he found his dream cast.
He mulled over it for a night and revealed the names to his well wishers. The 3 leads are... Sanjay as Ratan Singh, Leela as Padmavati & Bhansali as Khilji. âď¸ He added that the 3 were the perfect combination of valor, nazaakat, and obsession. Bhansali loves to be super involved in all departments of his filmmaking and now he decided to jump into acting too as only he can bring his own vision to life.
When Ranveer heard about this, he stomped his foot and flew to Switzerland to "chill out". While Deepika (gritting her teeth) had no other option but to politely say good bye. She had another lunch with her dear PR to look for new projects with meaty roles, after bitching about how Bhansali took her and her fandom for a ride. She further said she will be back with vengence in 2017 and steal the Best Actress from Bhansali's Padmavati. Atta girl! đđź
