Maybe Aish didnt achieve actingwise what a PC or Irrfan did but still none cant deny that Aish is a known face worldwide before anyone of them entered in to the picture.

if you talk torch bearers, ayesha dhadkar was in the star wars movies

and Amrish Puri in Indiana Jones when deepu wasn't even born .

😕 Aishwarya meaning wealth and prosperity.. yes India had and has so much of it from 10 centuries..

I'm going to be catastrated for this but DP is sounding a little insecure of PC IMO, all the PR articles and now this! She should let her do the work do the talking than this! Her film has not released, who decided she did a great job? Irfan has been consistently working there for some time, and PC has a full year behind her, even Anil has done some work! Putting herself is the same category, when she has not yet broken into western industry, she sounds overconfident!

Don't like either dp or pc, but I agree, dp is asked about pc but instead tales aish's name and completely overlook PC's success

Ash is probably the most known face of Bollywood globally! Thanks to her endorsements. But irrfan and PC have a body of work to substantiate the recognition.

Ayesha Dharker never worked in the mainstream Indian film industry, I think. She was primarily a Hollywood actress from the start. She wasn't that known in Bollywood, thus noone quite spoke about her. She was like the Freida Pinto of 90s. Freida isn't mainstream Bollywood either but thanks to the internet & social media, she's noticed. Yes, Amrish Puri, Om Puri, Kabir Bedi, Anupam Kher, Naseerudin Shah, Anil Kapoor etc did work in Hollywood films.

I won't deny that Aishwarya Rai was one of the first few ACTRESSES to cross over to Hollywood apart from Tabu & Mallika Sherawat.

But Aishwarya's movies didn't succeed in the west. It's a fact. She was known more as the Loreal brand ambassador, the prettiest woman in the world, walking the Cannes carpet & appearing on Oprah. So while I agree with Deepika that perhaps she did make the western film industry take notice of 'Bollywood actresses', the fact is as an actress, she didn't see much success in Hollywood.

And let's be honest here - none of the above actors enjoyed the phenomenal success & publicity that Priyanka Chopra is seeing currently in the west. Plus her show released in so many languages in so many other different countries.

Priyanka Chopra is in a different league. It's not easy to impress an American audience, or a foreign audience for that matter. Peecee has a FAN BASE in US which I do not think the other Indian actors have yet and it's quite a big deal.

That's why I say Priyanka Chopra is in a different league altogether!

It was very convenient for Miss Padukone to dodge the question. A few words of praise for Priyanka wouldn't have hurt. But it's her choice! It's a competition afterall so it's very natural to feel insecure. But it's stupid to make it obvious.

On a side note, do you guys know that even Nimrat Kaur is a part of an American TV Series?

No one is denying that Priyanka is super successful but Aishwarya was the first who did break into the west. No one can take that away from her. Maybe her name is not known but her face is globally known.

Deepika just stated the truth. You are not taking away Priyankas success if you admit that Aishwarya was the first.

And Aishwarya became famous in a time where there was not social media etc. to promote her..

If you ask in Germany to name famous stars of india they still take Sharukhan and Aishwaryas name first...

The problem is - Deepika was not asked 'Who was the first actress to break into the west or 'what do you feel about actresses making a mark in the west'

The interviewer specifically asked her what she feels about Priyanka chopra's recent success in the west...

She didn't answer the question, she changed the topic.
