I'm planning to watch this in theaters, will be my first Rajni film on 70 mm
Kabali starring Rajnikant has had an unbelievable initial in South India breaking all records. The nett collections of the film across India are the highest ever though this does not mean the highest opening collection ever in India as there are different rates of entertainment tax across India and they are generally lower in South India. The film has smashed all records in Tamil Nadu by becoming the first film to cross 20 crore in the state. The apprx all India breakdown for the collections of Kabali are as follows.
Tamil Nadu - 20,50,00,000
Nizam / Andhra - 9,50,00,000
Mysore / Kanataka - 7,00,00,000
Kerala - 3,75,00,000
Rest Of India - 4,00,00,000 (This includes not only Hindi but Tamil and Telugu playing outside South India)
GRAND TOTAL - 44,75,00,000
The above collections are for Tamil, Telugu and Hindi versions of the film. This is the highest ever NETT collection ever seen for the first day in India. But it is NETT so you can only compare like for like so as this is Tamil film, you can only compare with Tamil as comparing with rest is like comparing apples with oranges.
The GROSS collections of the top openers in India (all languages) will be compared later when finals of Kabali are in to see where it actually stands compared to the biggest openers ever in India. It is likely to be up there and very close to the top.

Kabali becomes the most watched film on Day 1
Kabali has become the most watched film on the first day of its release, as trade sources say more than 50 lakh people watched the film on Friday - about 35-40% of those were from Tamilnadu itself, which is unbelievably huge.
The footfalls are higher than the opening day of pan-India films like Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, Sultan and Dhoom 3.
It'll be interesting to see what happens when Robot 2.0' releases in theatres next year. Akshay Kumar has a strong following in the core Hindi belt of the country, while Rajnikanth is unmatched in the South. Both appeal to a different section of the audience at the overseas markets. To add to it, films directed by Shankar are hugely commercial and appeal both to the classes and masses.
A casting masterstroke like Robot 2.0' could put up unimaginable numbers next year.
