He heard about her beauty and saw a reflection in mirror. He got obsessed for her and wanted her in his harem. Padmini loves her husband Ratan Singh. He fought against Khilji to protect his wife and kingdom from army of Khilji. Padmini never met Khilji but since it's SLB he will show them meeting in dream.

This seems like reverse of BM. In BM, DP and PC barely had scenes but in Padmavati, RS and Sasha have most scenes

Rimple Narula is the costume designer for Padmavati, she confirmed Aditi Rao Hydari is in the film, she also said ranveer's character Khilji is the most interesting character in the film, his character will hav afghan influences in his costume, ratan will hav rajasthani influences in his costume and padmavati will hav grand costumes as she plays the rani of Chittor

they dont meet, khilji heard about her beauty, requested ratan to let him see her but padmavati did not want to be in the same room as khilji, so they let khilji see padmavati's reflection through a mirror and khilji became obsessed with her and announced a war that he wud not leave until he got her

Spoilers:

in the battle khilji defeats ratan, i think by capturing him and killing him, thats wen khilji enters thier palace to capture padmavati but she jumps into the fire and kills herself, coz she wud rather die than hav khilji get her
