If the casting had been reversed, it would have greatly benefitted both.

There were so many shades of heroism, Ranveer could have played. Happiness, Helplessness, sacrifice and protectiveness towards one's wife. This move would have benefitted Ranveer tremendously in long run - consolidating his position as real solid lead.

Shahid is always fantastic when he plays larger than life character. He never plays them as character but he actually breathes life in them. With such a superb antagonist, the anger, the fear, the pain every negative emotion the lead player experienced would have turned into 24 carat gold.


I just read somewhere to have a good super-hero movie you need a good antagonist. For a good romance movie, you need something similar. But the movie in both cases will still belong to leads.

Just my personal view, I dont know if it's that way. Let's wait for the movie. But i know a thing or two being in contact with Bhansali movies in twitter and its CEO.

Khilji and Padmavati are the lead characters of this film. Ratan has a big chunk role and an important one but he is not the lead. His screen time pales in comparison, you will see once it releases.
Ranveer at this point wouldn't prefer to be a supporting actor when he can have the lead role. Plus, he is playing negative for the first time.

Shahid is bringing freshness and I'm SUPER duper excited for shahid-dp, they should've been paired long time ago⭐️
