Okay btw..can anybody tell me why Zoya and Abhay's family holds Kundan responsible for his death? 😕 I mean he revealed what was the truth. How was he supposed to know if Abhay was a fraud or not? Entire fault lies with their lies and her relatives/gaon wale whoever killed off a person in rage. Funnily enough, nobody else repents except for Kundan for what wasn't even his fault in the first place. So lame. I mean yes, what he did by threatening to kill himself was utterly wrong but putting someone's death on him was wrong too.

My fav movie as well
There are several layers in the movie , if you just see the outer layer of the movie, it would seem like a stalker love movie but when you see the layers in it, the movie is about penance, gray characters, flawed people...

kundan at first is kind of stalkish but the moment comes when it is all about penance and redemption, towards the end he doesn't even want zoya's love, its about seeking forgiveness for his part .

people who claim that this movie encouraged stalking then people who watched dhoom and kick , should have been appalled when they glorified stealing, looting etc

its fiction , watch it like one

Not really a fan of the movie except for those cracker dialogues in the first half.."Tumhara pyaar na hua..UPSC ka exam ho gaya..saala itne saal si pass hi nahi ho raha" 🤣 And that scene where he comes back to the abandoned shaadi ka ghar and those band waale suddenly wake up from sleep and play some marriage song. 😆 Second half was kinda silly. Dhanush along with Zeeshan make this movie worth a watch. Oh yes, and I like that Piya milenge song too.

Dhanush n zeeshan were cracking in the film! Ya that upsc dialogue!

Mere seene ki Aag yaa toh mujhe zinda kar sakti
thi ya fir Mujhe Mar sakti thi,
Par Saala ab uthe kaun , kaun phir se mehnat kare
dil lagane ko , dil tudwane ko, abe koi toh aawaz
de ke rok lo, ye jo ladki murda si aanke liye baithi
he bagal me ,
"Aaj bhi Haan bol de toh mahadev ki kasam
wapas
aa jayenge" par nai ab saala mood nahi ,aankhe
moond lene mehi sukh hai.. so jane me hi bhali
he ,
par uthenge kisi din ussi ganga kinare damru
bajane ko unhi banaras k galiyo me doud jane ko
kisi Zoya ke ishq me phir se padh jaane ko..!!

I don't like movies where the leads don't meet or don't live a happy life ever after 😆

Real life is itself sad at times and movies having sad endings just make me more depressed 😆

Raanjhana is one of my favorite films of this decade.
I loved the film, i think it is a complete film, a great story, classic acting from the protagonist, beautiful music and perfect direction. Dialogue were bang on too, this film was something very earthy that takes you down to an entire journey of a boy, who grows up in his love, self destructs his own life, his redemption, his sacrifices, his selfless but yet flawed love, Kundan is one of the bets characters of this generation.

Some of my favorite scenes -

When zoya hugs kundan after the rally, he knew she was pretending to be sorry, but he felt nothing, he was totally numb. I loved the way Dhanush enacted that small sequence, that particular sequence was heart breaking.

The whole aise na dekho song, and the silence with which Kundan tries to redeem himself, making zoya more insecure and jealous and completely against him, his redemption taking his life, there could never be a better irony.

When murari sees kundan at death bed and breaks down, i cried, i loved their friendship, Murari was probably the only person who knew that Kundan's entire life revolved around zoya, and how shattered he was to see his friend dying despite always trying to keep zoya happy.

The last shot of grown up kundan walking and the child kundan running, the bst shot of the film with Tum Tak at the bg, some phenomenal feels there.

Acting wise Dhanush deserved all the applause, and this is not even his best performance, knowing his filmography and have watched his tamil films, i know how he is capable of much more but this performance is still so special, he has a brilliant control over his expressions, and even though not good looking, there is always a charm and innocence that he generates onscreen. Truly one of my favorite actors after Raanjhna.

Special mention to Zeeshan, his and Dhanush's chemistry made up for the first half of the film, great one liners and some great humor there.

Raanjhanaa is one of those very few movies which makes me cry every time I watch it. I love this movie, I love everything about this. Specially the end with Kundan's monologue as he takes his dying breaths.

'par uthenge kisi din ussi Ganga kinare damru bajane ko..
unhi Banaras k galiyo me doud jane ko..
kisi Zoya ke ishq me phir se padh jaane ko..'

and we get a shot of a young Kundan running down the street with the older Kundan smiling at him fondly as he passes him by. Just typing this is making me cry. A movie should always end with that one shot which the audience can cherish. Ranjhanaa gives just that. I remember that scene haunted me for days when I was first done watching this movie 3 years ago.

AND THE SONGS! All the songs elevated the movie to a whole new level altogether

From what I remember, Kundan found out that Zoya lied about Jasjit being a Muslim & impulsively revealed the truth to her parents in anger. The wedding broke off and Jasjit was beaten by Zoya's relatives for the fraud. He succumbed to those injuries. Yes, Kundan had no way of knowing that his actions would lead to an innocent man's death...but it did and he suffered the consequences for that. Of course, Zoya, Jasjit, and the actual relatives who killed Kundan are wrong...Zoya was a self-centered girl...and consumed by the tragedy that happened..I think it is always easier to blame someone else than acknowledge your own wrongdoings. Who would have thought it would have gone so wrong anyways? Kundan could have confronted Zoya privately..instead of revealing all to her parents & creating a mess...Zoya should never have lied to her family, & to Kundan, led him on...Jasjit should never have gone along with Zoya's ridiculous plan.

Does nobody else repent? Hmm..I dunno about that. Ya the film is primarily the journey of Kundan's redemption as he must deal with the ramifications of his impulsive actions..he basically destroyed her life, not that he is the sole person to blame..Jasjit died...one bad decision on Jasjit's part led to his death and Zoya, she never got her love either..she was almost dead in terms of emotions by the end anyways. Her humbling moment comes at the very end when she realizes the true extent of what she has done..of how she has let resentment, bitterness, anger, sadness, and need for revenge consume her...and knowingly lead another man to his death. I think they all face the consequences of their actions...they are all destroyed by love & the choices they make for that love I guess.
