Similarly, who are some muslims to say terrorists are *not* muslim? Terrorists are following the koran and interpreting it pretty by the book. Instead of ignoring the violent killing and stoning passages like moderate muslims do, terrorists follow it word for word. So who can point fingers and say "we are muslim but they are not."

Also I find it really wrong and disturbing than whenever the topic of Islamic terrorism comes up, people try to shut down the discussion by saying non-muslims need to "learn" and "read the koran" and "google searches aren't enough" and so on.

To be honest, nobody actually needs to do any of that nor even has the time or desire for it. People react based on what they see in the world. When there is bombing and killing every other day from people resorting to koranic teachings, they are going to form an opinion based on that. No amount of clever lecturing will change the feeling that all this death and violence causes.

Muhammad waged offensive wars, this is a fact stated in the earliest Islamic sources. His immediate succesors waged offensive wars, in about a 100 years after Muhammad's death, Muslims had conquered Spain, North Africa, Levant, Persia and Sindh, they didn't do this through defensive warfare. 😆

What is ISIS doing that Muhammad didn't do? Muhammad enslalved women and children, he destroyed pagan temples, raided trade caravans, he wiped out the entire Jewish community from Medina, took their land, property and wealth, conquered territories. He had his critics killed, Charlie Hebdo, anyone? He said to kill anyone who leaves Islam, kill homosexuals, legitamised child marriages etc. Guess what ISIS is doing, pretty much the same.

All of this is recorded in the earliest Islamic sources, I am not making any of this up, they're simply emulating Muhammad. Ofcourse we can continue to deny this and bury our heads in the sand.

This is why Al-Azhar university, the oldest university in the world and centre of Islamic scholarship, they will not denounce ISIS as unIslamic, why? because they undestand what they're doing.

All the translations are from noted Islamic scholar Abdullah Yusuf Ali's English translation which is widely used and accepted all over the world by both Muslims and others alike.

Quran(3:56) - "As to those who reject faith, I will punish them with terrible agony in this world and in the Hereafter, nor will they have anyone to help."

Quran(8:12) - "I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Therefore strike off their heads and strike off every fingertip of them."

Surah(3:151) - Aal Imran: "Soon shall we cast terror into the hearts of the Unbelievers, for that they joined companions with Allah, for which He has sent no authority: their abode will be the Fire: And evil is home of the wrong-doers."

Surah(4:89) - Aal-Maidah: "They but wish that ye should reject Faith, as they do, and thus be on the same footing (as they): But take not friends from their ranks until they flee in the way of Allah (From what is forbidden). But if they turn renegades, seize them and slay them wherever ye find them; and (in any case) take no friends or helpers from their rank.

Surah(8:12)-Al-Anfal: "Remember thy Lord inspired the angels (with the message): "I am with you: give firmness to the Believers: I will instil terror into the hearts of the Unbelievers: smite ye above their necks and smite all their finger-tips off them."

Surah(9:5)-At Tauba: "Then, when the sacred months have passed, slay the idolaters wherever ye find them, and take them (captive), and besiege them, and prepare for them each ambush. But if they repent and establish worship and pay the zakat then leave their way free. Lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful."

Surah(9:29)-At-Tauba "Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger, nor acknowledge the religion of Truth, (even if they are) of the People of the Book, until they pay the zakat with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued."

When I get the ability to, I can link you myself factual citations and sources. As of the moment I can't. Don't take it the wrong way and find it offensive, which I'm sure you will. I just believe that the Islamic faith needs a massive reform similar to Christianity.

Can we really blame ISIS for wanting to be real and true Muslims and following their Qu'ran word for word?
