Sultan will be aiming to become the first film to cross the 40 crore nett on day one. Last year Prem Ratan Dhan Payo which created an opening day record just failed to hit the 40 crore nett mark. It was four years back that the 30 crore nett barrier was broken by Ek Tha Tiger so its been sometime and a few films have come in the last 3 years were expected to go over 40 crore nett but all failed to do so. There is potential for the film to break the present record by a margin and that would be a real achievement rather than edging past. An insane 45 crore nett can't be ruled out.
The possibility for Sultan go over 40 crore than past releases is higher as Prem Ratan Dhan Payo was so close and with that little extra in ticket prices it should easily help it get there. More than should it really has to get there as its an initial film and the expectations from the industry are huge and it would be very tough to meet these without a record opening day. .
The film has many positives with main being Salman Khan who is at the peak of his career and this coupled with an extended holiday weekend falling perfectly it should mean all initial records broken. The genre has universal appeal and the theatrical and music saw a good response. The director has also done very well with two commercial ventures which probably never had the correct casting for the type of films they were but nevertheless managed pretty good numbers. This time the cast is there with a traditional Hindi film story telling style. This is the reason most Hindi films today can be written off to get big numbers which is not the case here. Obviously the content has to compliment the story telling to achieve the desired results but content can only be judged after release.
There are really no negatives for the film barring probably the Haryanvi language which can come in the way when a film is really chasing huge numbers as areas like Nizam / Andhra and Gujarat / Saurashtra have always under performed when Haryanvi is used or the main character is using the language. For a normal film this hardly matters but when its record numbers being chased there can't be under performing areas especially not big areas like Gujarat. Even in recent history, a Tanu Weds Manu Returns could not really collect in Gujarat despite being a runaway hit. This should not affect initially as star power should overcome it but could become a factor in the long run
The other negative is an external one which does not really affect the film but today has to be carried by every big film. The 300 and 400 crore numbers are flashed around and this thing of the next one should break the previous records is not easy as a film still has a lot of work to do even if all initials record are broken.
