The level of shamelessness here and on Twitter shown by Salman fans is appalling. Here is a man who is commenting on the lack of thought and respect shown to his sport as well as to the others by appointing someone not even related to sports in any which way and this is what he gets? People trashing him for his opinion on his own livelihood and what he knows more about than all of these losers combined. This is shameful. Disrespectful. Unacceptable on so many levels.
These nutcases don't understand the spirit of sport at all. Calling a national hero names while propelling a Bollywood hero? Sports is way above entertainment. Olympics is sacred. It is the epitome of sportsmanship and its shameful that the association is this shallow to appoint a movie star for this. Who cares who it is. No movie star deserves to be an Olympic ambassador. What kind of joke is this.

And on top of that, people have the balls to go ahead and bash a sportsman for the truth. This country has gone to the dogs on so many levels.

Some people here think that without Salman, we wouldn't talk of Olympics? Let me tell you that even in very rural households people have doordarshan on throughout the day during Olympics. The Hindi commentary along with little breaks. Everyone watches the Olympics if they can. It might not be on IPL or India/pak level viewing but people do watch it. So please don't insult the intelligence of people here by saying absolute nonsense. It makes you sound extremely naive and misinformed.

I actually urge the Salman fans here to take a stand against those insulting the sportsman. Please tackle and stop those losers on Twitter bashing a national sportsman. Its a matter of intrigity for your fandom as well. Their behaviour reflects on your own too so take a stand because in spite of Salman's many flaws I am sure he would never approve of this sort of behaviour from his fans. So take a stand against these disrespectful losers.

Just because everyone does it doesnt make it right. If this were any other stars' fans I would have said the same. Like I said, it doesn't matter which actor is chosen. Actors have no place in Olympics. Olympics is for sports and sports only. And if you had read properly without hurrying to accuse I actually asked Salman's sensible fans to tackle these losers. His own fans should protect his name from his insensible fans.

oh pls. for all those people saying that salman gets nothing out of this , get real. all these things - the goodwill ambassador etc help to create a positive image that helps immensely with his criminal cases. never underestimate the power of positive publicity.

no actor - salman, srk or ab should have been chosen. they should have chosen a sportsman.

and 10 salman fans having a meltdown on twitter does not count as "talking about Olympics". salman will have zero impact on getting people to watch sports unless the govt invests in actually grooming and promoting sports.

If you want to appoint a actor why not put someone with a connection to sports like Deepika Padukone?: Nisha Millet

& india's real hero Mr dutt agreed to this...

Deepika chalegi but no Salman 😲

I don't understand the point in having a BW star promote Olympics.
If it's to inspire children to take up sports, the whole purpose is defeated since the learning is that whatever you achieve in sports, BW will always steal the limelight and so go into that if you have the option.

And if the aim is to attract viewers, why would people switch to watching Olympics just because a star promoted it? They wouldn't have got any emotional connect to any sportsman or his field to even want to track what happened to him/her or others in that sport.

Why are all Salman fans being called shameless for actions and comments of some here and on twitter??
Anyways isn't he just the goodwill ambassador which seems like mere tokenism. I doubt they have appointed him as the torchbearer to lead the contingent in the opening ceremony. Isn't that what counts??

Not discounting what Yogeshwar has said and I do agree that a sportsperson would have been a better choice but there are certain sportsmen like Abhinav Bindra and Sardar Singh, whose comments on news channels seemed to indicate that they have no issues with a popular non-sporting celeb being associated with the Indian Olympic effort at Rio.
