Cause I want to live, like animals..careless and free..like animals. I want to live and I want to run through the jungle with the wind in my hair and the sand at my feet

As I came out of the theater, I knew keenly what Savage Garden meant when they sang these lines, cause I swear never did I ever want to be a movie character as bad as I wanted to be Mowgli right then. That wilful, kind, brave, unique, resourceful boy was such a delight to watch in this fabulous adaptation of Disney's that I wished so bad that I could be Mowgli...or atleast have that innocent, carefree childhood back again that I left far behind.

The movie was so visually stunning and awe inspiring in terms of the feat achieved by the CGI team in recreating an Indian jungle in its entirety digitally. The voice cast was absolutely stellar too in the Hindi version that I saw, with special praise reserved for Bugs, Nana and Irfan. As far as acting is concerned, Neel Sethi was such a delight and so well cast that he is forever going to be the face of Mowgli for me.

Thank you Disney for introducing Mowgli to the younger generation and re-introducing him to the older generation as well in this masterpiece of an adaptation. I am eagerly looking forward to the sequel to see where you take young Mowgli in his fabled journey.

P.S. Just one small grouse that they did not include Jungle Jungle Baat chali hain in the Hindi version cause I kept waiting for it...alas..it would have been the icing on the cake

The Jungle Book' Becomes Highest-Grossing Hollywood Release Ever In India

by Anita Busch April 21, 2016 8:28am

Walt Disney Studios

Disney's The Jungle Book just became the highest-grossing Hollywood release ever in India, a country where 90% of the box office grosses go to films that are home grown. To make the record in India, little Mowgli ran past both Furious 7 and Jurassic World. After only 12 days in release in the country, the CGI/live action film has grossed (through yesterday) $24.6M which makes it the second biggest market behind China right now which has $63.9M.

The record in India follows The Jungle Book posting the biggest opening week for any Hollywood release ever there when it opened to $15.1M; it's also the highest grossing Disney release of all time there.

Two local titles are is competition right now and both are playing well. The first is Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan's Fan and the second is the Tamil title Theri. While The Jungle Book took over the box office in India, Fan enjoyed the biggest 2016 Bollywood debut in North America this past weekend with $1.36M at 280 locations. Fan initially was ahead of The Jungle Book in India, but no more as the CGI/live-action take on the studio's own 1967 animated film based on the Rudyard Kipling classics has swung past it and will continue strong this weekend.

The Jungle Book, which debuted a week before in India before it was released stateside, has taken in $232.7M internationally to date on a global haul of $357.4M. And that's before it heads into what is anticipated to be another strong weekend both abroad and domestically. It is set to dominate both box offices again this weekend and should only drop about 50% to 55% this weekend for another easy No. 1.

The Jungle Book 3rd Week Box Office Collection

The Jungle Book continues its splendid run even in the third week. As per the official figures, The Jungle Book collection in the third week is 27.89 crore.

The Hollywood release maintained an excellent hold in week 3. The weekend remained unaffected by the bunch of new releases. Still the film had a pretty good run at multiplexes and also helped by family audience. The film will finish its run in the range of 175 crore and will be an all time blockbuster. On its fourth Friday, the film is running at a decent pace in some centers despite the release of Baaghi.
