He was always better, if the subtle performances were appreciated over the ott acting in bollywood then yes!
There were many such many stances like for New York, water jism,even jhootha hi sahi or his very recent roles in Force, Madras cafe. The dialog delivery an action hero requires his superfit body for the same.
I think his production house gives him that scope to bring out the best from within him creatively and for other actor directors too. His education and kifaydi middle class sense allows him to make low bidjet good movies.

IF taken Siddharth he was very good in HTP.. Even varun... I Ranveer is of different class altogether hehe.
Everyone needs a chance to shine, the young lot are getting and if they are able they will shine brightly, unfortunately John didn't get a chance in his early years, I mean he was never backed by any production house... He remained outsider forever, that's where he lacked behind.

John was a stunner and still is! Rocky handsome is well named. xD

John was really good in Madras Cafe and NY. He was good in Dostana too. Although he did not really have to act in that film. LOL

Acting wise, he's better than Arjun, Aditya, Sidharth, Tiger. But I find Sid , Aditya a lot more appealing for some reason!

i remember in my childhood i used to find john weird bcoz of his long hair but now i find him ok but still i find him more good looking than that siddharth malhotra and even in interviews this sid try to act all cool but fails miserably and he comes across such a wannabe i dont understand why he is getting movies ( i hate this kjo he clearly do nepotism and is unapologetic about it )

Always liked John. He is a complete package.
He has done really well in Water, No smoking and some others.
But Garam Masala and comedy movies his acting looks wierd.
Much better than some of the new comers though.
Sid and John are too hot and don't need to act 😉

john very boring both off & on screen

John is sort of a late bloomer. Started his career at 31 had quite a few failures at the start of his career also faced a lot of criticism for his acting skills.

Accept for Aditya. Yes he maybe talented but has only done 3 legit films as a lead.
