I think John is decent - he isn't the greatest actor and he clearly struggles with expressions and dancing, but his body is one of the best amongst the actors and he is quite good in action movies as well as drama movies. I think he's probably better than the likes of the more 'undeserving' star sons i.e. Arjun Kapoor, Jacky Bhagnani, Girish etc, but definitely not as good as say Ranbir, Ranveer or Shahid.
That being said, I watched this interview of his with Rajeev Masand and was quite surprised to see that he is far more intelligent/educated than I thought he was! I looked up his education - he has a MBA and has worked in corporate jobs before modelling/acting, and since turning producer with Vicky Donor and Madras Cafe, his producer/behind-the-camera personas have turned out to be much better than his acting career. Same as I wrote his production house give him that creative space to see what he wanted for himself as actor. I so wished Harshwardhan Rane had debuted with John but Sanam Teri kasam came first... That impactful presence his films give like ayushmaan got.
