Kangana Ranaut is one heroine who needs no superstar to deliver a hit film at the box office. The actress has time and again proved that she is here to stay and deliver some memorable performances. No wonder her bankable status at the theater windows and her track record is winning the lady some good projects. And seems like Rangoon too belongs to Kangana! Now that is certainly not a good news for her co-stars Shahid Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan. Buzz is that Saif and Shahid are both a little vary of Kangana taking centre stage in this movie.
A source revealed, "Shahid and Saif are not very happy with the fact that Kangana is the hero of the movie. It is a Kangana Ranaut movie and even though the film has been renamed as Rangoon, she will be the main lead of the film." And also went on to add how the makers are planning to make the actress the face of the film, the source said "Kangana has had hits like Queen and Tanu Weds Manu Returns and she is a more bankable star at the box office compared to both Saif and Shahid, whose last film have not really worked at the box office."
While Shahid had a wonderful 2014 and swept all the awards for Haider, 2015 wasn't great with Shaandaar failing to perform. Saif too has failed to have a hit under his belt with Humshakals and Happy Ending bombing badly. Both Shahid and Saif have had successful associations with Vishal Bhardwaj and it was said that despite not playing the main lead chose to come on board cause of their faith in the director.
But close sources also tell us that they are now unhappy', especially with Kangana being the central character in this love story that is set in the 1940s. Ahead of the announcing the final cast too there were reports suggesting that the two actors were not comfortable. However, with a lot of cajoling and coaxing from the director and the duo finally gave a nod to this project.
Not o long ago both Shahid and Saif were spotted in their Rangoon look and Kangana we hear is ready to film a song for her movie in Mumbai studio. Well, we hope that in case this is true it brings the best out of these actors in terms of performance. That will be a win-win situation for Mr Bhardwaj. Apart from this source we decided to find out from our trade expert Akshaye Rathi on what's the buzz around the movie and if its indeed a Kangana Ranaut movie and here's what he had to say...
#On Kangana being the face of Rangoon:
Akshaye pointed out that like Shahid and Saif, Kangana too has had her share of falls at the BO, he said, "In an ideal world I would like to see it as a film that brings together these three talents that makes it an interesting ensemble. Sure we remember that Kangana has had one Tanu Weds Manu Returns recently, but what we fail to remember is that she had a Revolver Rani and a Rajjo before it and a I Love NY and Katti Batti after it. So, while all this acclaim and appreciation has happen around Kangana it still doesn't make her a Salman Khan, who can irrespective of how good bad or ugly the content is draw an opening. In fact not just in this case but in any case, unless we're talking about the three Khans it's always good to market the film on the merit of the content rather than on the face value of the talent it features."
#On Shahid Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan still being HOT in B-town
Rathi cleared the air and said, "While Shahid and Saif have not had phenomenal success recently they are both talented actors. If they are used the right way and given the right director and script both of them have great scope. While Shahid hasn't had many hits in his career, give him a Sooraj Bharjatya and he will give you a Vivah, give him a Imtiaz Ali and he will give you a Jab We Met, give him a Prabhu Dheva and he will deliver an R...Rajkummar. So he definitely is an extremely talented boy. Given the right project and right script he can deliver."
He also added, "I personally believe that the personal history doesn't benefit the film one bit. Both of them are extremely talented and interesting characters and the kind of PR that can be drawn around them will surely create a lot of noise around and buzz around the film. But ultimately when it comes to numbers and box office it is going to be how engaging and interesting the content of this film is, that is what will spell out its verdict."
#It is a VISHAL BHARDWAJ movie
Akshaye Rathi feels that Rangoon will be a VB film, he said, "Vishal Bharadwaj has worked with the biggest names and talking purely of box office reports he's not had a phenomenally great run. But having said that he has always earned a lot of critical acclaim, a lot of appreciation for the genre of films he has done. With these two stars coming together it will of course be very edgy, interesting and will definitely get the critics raving. But when it comes to commercial it will depend on how entertaining the film is. And I hope that Mr Bhardwaj gets it right on this one."
