I guess the industry has finally realized that shit is truly shit, whether in the gutter or on a silver platter. Good for them for not supporting it.

As an NRI I can give you the reasoning for why its doing so well at least in London, the general consensus seems to be:

-Most people want to see the iconic SRK-Kajol jodi

-SRK star power

-Holiday season, people want to spend time with family and they would rather see a movie marketed as a "family movie'

-Ranveer and Deepika are fairly new and the older generation and those who don't watch new movies regularly dont identify as well with them whereas SRK and Kajol have been established for a very long time

-People expect it to be glam and grand like a YRF movie

In India sure the protests may have had an impact on the figures but the WOM for BM is much stronger than that for Dilwale. Relatives in Delhi, UP, Rajasthan and Mumbai including die hard SRK fans who have watched both movies have all recommended BM instead of Dilwale mostly for the content, RS's acting and the value for money.

And SRK will be constantly bashed and made fun of because his supposedly crappy movie (DW wasnt half as crappy as some other Solo releases) didnt make enough money because of CLASH and Protests? GREAT! 👏

So ALL this boils down to this...if a crappy movie is released SOLO and makes MONEY because people didnt have any other better choice then that movie and actor is forgiven and ALL IS WELL. 😕

So basic principle here is MAKING MONEY, not CONTENT!

What is this comparison about other crappy movies and Dilwale? So you mean to say the entire nation is conspiring against SRK, including people like me who are spreading negative word of mouth?

And a crap movie is a crap movie...I bashed PRDP even more than I am bashing DW because it is the worst movie experience I subject myself to, in the recent times...and let us not even talk about how much bashing the movies like 'kick' and 'ready' take...If SK has a loyal fanbase who support him irrespective of the quality of his movies, what can you do...Unfortunately for SRK it is not true...Because many of the hardcore SRK fans are appalled by the movie and discouraging people from watching it...What do you say to that?

PRDP didnt face protests or theater closings! Neither did Kick or Ready inspite of being trashier than Dilwale.
Any movie, whether good or bad shd get a fair chance at doing its business at BO, and not being deliberately brought down by shows being forced to shut down.
Anyway I hope this same negativity happens in real world with other star's movies next year, then we will sit with popcorn and enjoy.😉
The question was why industry is not supporting SRK against those BJP bhakts who are shutting down screenings.

Rajasthan and Bihar seriously???? Well Bihar is owned by Yadavs not BJP bhakts, but carry on. Those two circuits contribute how much money to a movie? 20 cr max?

What about the biggest circuit in India? Mumbai...??? Any reasons for it not working?? Shiv Sena did not close theaters there. What about Delhi/UP??? AAP and SP is in majority there. What is the reason for Dilwale under performing there.

Dilwale is performing very well in Single screens but fail to make any impact in Multiplexes. So as per your logic BJP bhakts have dominance in multiplexes whereas single screens in same city they can't do anthing???😆

For a movie to do well...

1. It needs to be a well made movie.

2. It needs to perform really well in Mumbai. Delhi/UP.

3. It needs to be a big hit with multiplex audience.

Dilwale failed in all three. Maybe its time to get in touch with reality that movie was bad and it had very bad WOM. I am yet to meet a person who has given glowing review of Dilwale.

Far worse movies than DW have done well at BO...in recent years, really trashy movies have done well because they didnt face these protests or such vicious negative campaigning online.

Of course BM will do much better in Maharashtra, its abt a Maratha general, thats a no brainer. 😆

But DW is doing excellent business in states like Kerala and West Bengal where normally more content based movies do better. BM is lagging far behind Dilwale in WB and Kerala...that shows DW is not as trashy as this forum or biased online reviews are projecting it to be. 😉

I didnt make up those circuit based conclusions. THis forum's favorite BOI has given this opinion abt DW's poor performance in certain circuits.

The first week of Dilwale has affected by this intolerence thing going on with Shahrukh Khan in India. Its difficult to put a number on it but the circuit ratios make little sense and its unlikely that a major commercial release has seen such ratios where the circuits with a smaller mass audience are out performing while the core Hindi markets are under performing by a distance.

The film has scored very well in West Bengal, Nizam / Andhra, Mysore and Tamil Nadu / Kerala. In all these circuits it will emerge among the top five highest grossing films ever. All these circuits are where there is more of a class audience rather than mass for Hindi films. Probably because mass prefers the regional cinema in these places and language also an issue in some of these circuits.

The other markets which are core Hindi markets have under performed by big margins. While the above circuits are among the biggest ever for week one, many of the other circuits are not even in top twenty for their respective first weeks. A West Bengal and Nizam being similar to East Punjab, a CI is being less than Tamil Nadu / Kerala, these sort of things just don't happen with this genre.

Basically the audience in mass pockets has kept away and Dilwale suffered as the intolerence thing was fresh at time of release. Its not that film would have been a blockbuster if the problem was not there but it would have done more business for sure.. The first week territorial breakdown of Dilwale is as follows

ALSO THIS:

Do u mean to say all NRIs and other BW fans abroad dont know how to tell if a film is good or bad? 😆

Besides he has his own PH, he produced AND distributed this movie himself and took on the media giant Eros...so industry is supporting bigger fish Eros, which already has 3 more big films lined up.

But the question is, can BM recover its 150 crore budget and still be a hit?
