One thing people need to understand is Masala Films are the big money spinners of Bollywood. These are the films that basically finance Bollywood. They are needed because without them and their success...smaller films like NH10, Queen, Kahaani etc would not get made.
The fact that we can make content-based films is directly related to the fact that masala films bring in the money in order to make that a reality. Thats how the business works, otherwise these people are not stupid to make such films.

However, now the Khans are SLOWLY gravitating towards films that do have strong content (Bajrangi Bhaijaan...and even Sultan, Raees, Fan look promising) Its a process that is slowly happening. Even audiences are not happy with the khans films like JTHJ, PRDP, Dilwale - thats sign of progression, even though all these films earned big, they are not "respected" films. But again, they are a necessity.

Dilwale surpasses Bajirao Mastani in International market

As Bajirao Mastani and Dilwale clashed at the box-office yesterday, Absolute India takes a look at the first day business it made both in Indian and international market

Two biggest films of the year Dilwale and Bajirao Mastani clashed at the box-office yesterday. Just after the announcement, both the films were in the news for different reasons. While both the makers were confident about it, Rohit Shetty's Dilwale definitely took a leap over Sanjay Leela Bhansali magnum opus Bajirao Mastani.

According to trade experts, Dilwale won the game on the first day. And why not? It's Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol's romance we are talking about and the whole episode of them coming together after five years added fuel in the fire. On the other hand, Bajirao Mastani had to face some tough time before its release.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared the box-office figures on his social media account. He tweeted, "Top five opening day - 2015: #PRDP 40.35 cr, #BajrangiBhaijaan 27.25 cr, #Dilwale 21 cr, #SinghIsBliing 20.67 cr, #Brothers 15.20 cr." Talking about Dilwale, he wrote, "#Dilwale Fri 21 cr. India biz. VERY GOOD, in view of the fact that screens/shows got divided + protests/show cancellations at places." He further added, "#BajiraoMastani Fri 12.80 cr [3050 screens]. India biz. Film growing rapidly with strong word of mouth and glowing reviews."

Not only did he shared business of both of the films in the Indian market scenario but also enlightened about the figures in the international market too. He wrote, #Dilwale takes international markets by STORM... UK: Fri [Rank 2, after #StarWars] 218,803 [ 2.22 cr]. AWESOME! #Dilwale - AUSTRALIA: Fri [Rank 6] A$ 143,352 [ 69.33 lacs]... NEW ZEALAND: Fri [Rank 3] NZ$ 79,292 [ 35.39 lacs]. TERRIFIC!" He also brought light to the business Bajirao Mastani did in international market. He wrote, "#BajiraoMastani gets affected by #Dilwale wave in some intl markets... UK: Fri [Rank 7] 74,029 [ 73.13 lacs]. Some sites to report..." He added, "#BajiraoMastani - AUS: Thu A$ 67, Fri [Rank 10] A$ 77,919. Total: A$ 77,986 [ 37.11 lacs]... NZ: Fri [Rank 7] NZ$ 15,428 [ 6.89 lacs]."

Komal Nahta, trade analyst also shared his views. He wrote, "Opening of #Dilwale ranges from good to very good to excellent. Opening of #BajiraoMastani is ordinary to fair, but good at places." He further wrote, "#Dilwale 1st day in UAE best ever for Hindi film, approx $900,000 (estimate). Ahead of Star Wars by 60%, & of #BajiraoMastani by around 400%."
