There is a mega box office storm brewing at the end of this year around Christmas with two big movies set to take on each other. The movies in question are Shah Rukh Khan and Rohit Shetty's romantic action "Dilwale" and Sanjay Leela Bhansali's historic "Bajirao Mastani". Both are scheduled to release on December 18.
While Dilwale brings the hit pair of Shah Rukh and Kajol back on screen together after five years, "Bajirao Mastani" starring Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Priyanka Chopra is Bhansali's dream project, his passion. "I have never been so involved before. I am enjoying directing this film," said Bhansali from the Film city sets.
And well, there is a whiff of dj vu in this huge collision. We all know what happened the last time Shah Rukh and Bhansali clashed at the box office. On November 9, 2007, SRK's Om Shanti Om battled the Bhansali-directed Saawariya, defeating the latter by a heavy margin. Interestingly, Deepika Padukone, who was then making her debut in Om Shanti Om with Shah Rukh, is on the other side this time as the female protagonist of Bhansali's "Bajirao Mastani". Relations between Shah Rukh and Bhansali have reportedly been strained in the past.
And, it appears that one of India's finest directors, is in a mood to combat. "Look, I was the first one to announce the release date. Now if they want to come on the same day, what can I do?" Bhansali told Pinkvilla in an exclusive chat when asked if the clash could have been averted. Deepika was in a 'No comments' mode. While Bhansali locked the release date for his magnum opus much earlier, Shah Rukh took to micro-blogging site to announce the final release date of the film some time in June this year.
