Katty got a whole long paragraph dedicated to her..It is a rare feet for any actress👍🏼

But the leads keep pulling the film down. By now, Katrina-bashing has become a legitimate sport among serious moviegoers, whose delight in her dramatic turns matches that of a hungry crocodile that's just discovered a swimming Sumo wrestler.

She does not disappoint. She messes up the simplest lines, like: Government forces ad-vanes kar rahe hain. In order to explain that ad-vanes, they try to pass her off as a Parsi. Later, she pretends she's in labour. The screaming isn't hers. It's coming from Stanislavsky. Khan is really ambitious. He gives Kaif one of those "cuckoo clock" scenes - you know, from The Third Man, where the essence of the character is distilled into a long monologue. I couldn't watch. I suppose this scene is why the film got its U/A rating - young children should proceed with extreme caution.

Worse, Kaif ends up with scenes opposite Sohaila Kapoor, who plays that Pakistani nurse as a soul wracked by unfathomable torment. Her son turned out to be a jihadi. It's just a few scenes, but Kapoor makes us feel the love for her son and the hate for what he became and the people who made him that way. Kaif just sits across and watches blankly.
She was probably thinking, Lady, you may know how to act, but I'm the one with the fat L'Oral contract.😎

Phantom Monday (Day 4) Collections and Tuesday Update

1 min read

Phantom has done well on its first weekday at the domestic box office by collecting Rs 4.4 crore on Monday. The drop from Friday is around 45%, which is better than normal.

The film has collected Rs 37.58 crore in 4 days and the first week total is expected to be in the 48-49 crore range.

The problem for Phantom is the competition that it faces in its 2nd week. A big film like Welcome Back' is scheduled to release in theatres this week, followed by Hero' the week after. Even films that carry good word-of-mouth have very little breathing space these days. Classic example of which is a film like Drishyam', which had the potential to do 90-100 crore business if it released during a more favourable period.

Tuesday Update: Business on Tuesday was steady at multiplexes. The drop from Monday is less than 10% at most places.

Phantom Box Office Collections

  • Friday - 8.46 crore
  • Saturday - 12.78 crore
  • Sunday - 11.94 crore
  • Monday - 4.40 crore
  • Total collections - 37.58 crore

Sajid Nadiadwala's Phantom hits the bullseye at the box office

By Bollywood Hungama News Network, September 01, 2015 - 16:26 hrs IST
#

The year 2015 has been one of mixed proportions for Bollywood especially in terms of box office collections, while on one hand we have seen some rather unconventional films striking a chord with the audience and making it big at the BO, there have been other that were expected to do well, but for some reason failed to hit the mark. However, Sajid Nadiadwala's recent release Phantom featuring Saif Ali Khan and Katrina Kaif, despite the initial sluggish start has managed to hit the bullseye.

In fact, Phantom managed to amass Rs. 33.18 crores (Friday Rs.8.46 cr, Saturday Rs. 12.78 cr, Sunday Rs. 11.94 cr) over its opening weekend a feat that was said to be a rather farfetched task by many a trade analysts. However the overall hype surrounding the film, the director's recent success with Bajrangi Bhaijaan, the rather patriotic feel to the film and most of all the producer's hit streak with back to back successes in the form of Highway, 2 States, Heropanti and Kick, went a long way in boosting the overall collections of the film. For those who are yet skeptical about the success of the film, Phantom managed to surpass the previously released Akshay Kumar starrer Baby that was based on a similar topic. Apart from this, while most releases usually tend to show a drop in collections on Mondays, Phantom, on the other hand managed to sustain its growth to a large extent.

Probably the sleeper hit of the year Phantom that has been receiving positive reviews from the audience has been shown a healthy trend at screens with a growth not just in business but also in overall footfalls at cineplexes. While the next three days play a crucial role for this film, that is based on the book 'Mumbai Avengers' penned by Hussain Zaidi, the positive response the film has been receiving will more than definitely make Phantom this year's biggest sleeper hit.
