Dehradun, October 12: AVINASH, the main suspect in the acid throwing case here last week, was today produced before a local court which ordered that he be sent back to Chandigarh after the state police said he was not wanted in the case.

Avinash has been accused of throwing acid on Rangoli, sister of film actress Kangna Ranaut, and her friend on October 5 in which the girls received serious burn injuries.

After hearing the arguments, Additional CJM Subeer Kumar directed the police to send Avinash back to Chandigarh after they refused to take him into custody. ''I am innocent,'' Avinash told reporters.

Dehradun SSP Sanjay Gunjyal said Avinash was not wanted in the case. An unidentified person threw acid on Rangoli's face and her friend and later fled from the spot. Rangoli, who suffered burn injuries, has been admitted to a hospital in Mumbai.
