Only mumbaikars have stories?

All bolly films used to be based in Mumbai with some song sequences in Kashmir/Switzerland or the like.
In recent times, there has been a bit of a shift with more films based in Delhi/Benares/UP and Kolkata when the director is bengali (Kahaani).

Is there a single hindi film that has been shot extensively in the south of India in outdoors.

When people saw Baahubali, they were gobsmacked by the beauty of Kerala.

Now even Ajay's Drishyam is coming out and looks like it has been shot in Goa/Madh Island area even though the beauty of the original was also the locations of the south.

Why is it that filmmakers sooner go abroad than shoot in the south of India?

Do only people from Mumbai have a story. Rest of India sucks balls.

Considerable amount of scenes in 2 states were shot in the areas of Pondicherry and Mahabaleshwar, Barfi had beautiful scenes in Darjeeling, even Jaipur looked beautiful in Shuddh desi romance. I think, the filmmakers are slowly exploring the less-explored places on-screen. Delhi was also beautifully portrayed in movies like RDB and Vicky Donor.

However, I agree with the Kerala part, the cinematography of many Malayalam movies is effing gorgeous. I'm smitten by the beauty, most of the times. 😆

Edit : Even though, Raavan was a bad movie, some portions of it were shot in Kerala and what beauty and who can forget the beautifully shot Behti hawa sa tha woh from 3 idiots in Ladakh!

p.s. Nice topic

its a mumbai film industry aka bollywood so predominately it will be shot in Mumbai itself and all stars technicians live in the city so saves cost rather than relocating to kerala with the whole unit

Its similar like you having your marriage in your city rather then going to other city and arranging hotel/food transportation to entire guest...

But they don't mind taking their entire unit to Switzerland/Prague/or whatever, Foreign locales might have been exotic once upon a time but now they look mundane.

When you like to spend money on burger, you think to have at the best place. and just a sandwich then you prefer to make at home..

So when spending money, catch Switzerland . UK.. but when other India regions.. best Mehboob studio..

IKR. Until I started watching south movies, I had no idea that a whole unexplored world lay beyond bollywood.

LOL. So locations in India are not worth spending money? 😆

OT : Even the initial scenes of Life of Pi were shot in Munnar. Absolutely stunning.
