OT, Saif just didnt have that MANLY hero appeal to masses in 90s..Even thou some th biggest hits of 90s were romance- family dramas.. every1 had to do action films. Srk- Salman did DDLJ- HAHK etc but they also did K-A and many mediocre actions films. Akshay- Ajay were biggest rivals in action genre we know. Even Suneil shetty got better off Akki in the films they starred together 😆 and I was annoyed coz i was huge akki fan back then.. films like Waqt humara hai, Mohra, Dhadkan etc..

Saif cudnt have a solo and in action films he was always sidekick, funny one at that.

Post 2000, DCH and Omkara were far and few inbetween. He just doesnt have that x-factor. He survived so long is an achievement coz he did whatever offered to him. Like Abhishek, side roles.

I always wonder why only 3 khans for so long, whay no 4 khans? 😆 Coz the 4th one doesnt cut the cake.

May be more of his fans now r mostly Kareena's fans. Some ppl r just not meant to be make it big.

Comparison - Great actors who dabbled in plenty of off beat cinema. Irfan as his main roles, Saif, a lot during his earlier days.

Contrast: Saif is ALSO commercial.

He's more similar to Irfan than he is to Salman in his approach to acting. But sure, yeah, he can also do commercial cinema and chooses to.
Now he's going back to what he did well. Which is offbeat as well.

If I show saif's filmography for over the years and how many trashy roles he may have done.. the comparison goes for a toss.

Kisi gadhe ko bhi 23 years chance diya jaye acting ke liye, to 3-4 movies to vo achchi acting kar hi lega. 😆 I think Abhi has done memorable perf orientated roles than saif in all these years.

Ok, now compare saif to Naseerudin Shah coz Naseer also danced on song 'Oye oye" in Tridev.. and it was a hit.. charbuster song. 😆

Post 2004, Saif hasn't done side roles. So I don't understand where this side role bit is coming in?

I mean surely, what is it now...2014, a decade, he's still here. clearly.

Still getting the big films offered to him.

I mean say what you want, he's still clearly playing lead role with the most prominent film makers vying and running after him.

How do you explain a film maker like Kabir Khan working with Salman on one hand and Saif on the other?

Or The Akhtars who still offer him films and it just hasn't worked out.

He just opted out of Reema Kagti's Mr Chaalu

Apart from few performance oriented character, I can barely remember any of Saif's movies. As an ardent BW lover, I heard about Saif more after his and bebo link up or my mum would be like isn't he Sharmila tagore's son? So from whatever I know or heard about him he wasn't that popular.

I have no likes/dislikes for him but he just doesn't have that X-factor.

His filmography is way too old... 23 years. And he isnt even in top 10 today.

He cant be compared to 3 khans, HR, Akki, AD, nor Ranbir, Ranveer, Varun, Sid M, Shahid...notin that order.

He can't coz he has his own persona. What Saif does, others cannot do. What they do, perhaps he cannot either.

It can be an advantage or disadvantage depending on how one looks at it.

The way I see it, he has so many chances still coming up. it would be one thing if the guy didn't have good roles coming his way, but he keeps getting amazing films and roles, yes, as SOLO lead.

So what if he made some crappy choices? Coming films are more opportunities.

I await Phantom, Jugalbandi, and Rangoon by Vishal B.

SAK doesnt really have any kind of mass appeal. Plus he doesnt have a fan following. Newer folks like Shahid/Ranbir have a better following in lesser time. Earlier girly looks and recent bad choices hit him hard. Earlier when it was the best time for him to build a fanbase...and latter when its a question of survival at 40+ competing with younger as well as more established older people.
