It's good if BW open up new territories @ world.. not for all films bay be 10 films a year. Coz, as it is HW is eating multiplex businesses in India.

Yes, but for this to work; you have to consistently make good movies and sell them to the audience there. A PK after two three years is not going to cut it. All the good work done by this movie will be ruined if the quality of the next few releases isn't good.

A recent example is HNY. It got such a wide relase (3000 screens I guess) but could only manage to do 84 lakhs.

In this day and age of internet people will read about the movie first and then go see it; esp if its dubbed from a different language has has already been related back in the home territory..

For that to happen, BW has to break the stereotypes @ BW movies, song, dance, melodrama that overseas ppl think in general. We do make good movies that can click overseas (not just NRIs or south Indians).. but who will watch it unless some PK and other movies break that reputation.

So, happy that PK is doing well in one least expected market like China.. my personal opinion on the movie notwithstanding, its a good sign for BW.

Also, the promotion teams of BW will need to wake up and cater to these new audiences. Its gonna be cut throat competition with HW in India as India's middle class is moving way faster to upper class.

This is a wrong assumption/thinking. Those are the trademarks of Indian films (3 Idiots/PK had all those) if you strip away all those what is it that would differentiate them from a Hollywood movie. You know you can't compete with them on budgets. Our films have to be desi, it has to have that desi-ness that would first connect locally, this will in turn also become the USP for its working Worldwide. It is easier said than done though because I am not talking about Salman kind of movies.

Before Aamir Khan, Raj Kapoor was a huge name in China, during Big B times Bollywood had market in many places that is lost . They did pure Indian films, didn't they. It is lost because for a decade or two we simply made crap films. Best of Telugu and most of Tamil/Malayalam films is how to do it. If Bollywood makes films films of those quality/entertainment they would do sensationally worldwide.

A still from the film PK

PK RECENTLY CREATED BOX OFFICE HISTORY BY FETCHING BOLLYWOOD ITS FIRST RS 100 CRORE FROM A SINGLE COUNTRY ABROAD

The outstanding success of PK in India and overseas has given a reason to the cast and crew of the movie to celebrate with a party today.

Directed by Rajkumar Hirani and produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, PK, which released in 4600 screens across China on May 22, created box office history by fetching Bollywood its first Rs 100 crore from a single country abroad.

The film's earnings from China stand at Rs 109 crores at last count.

PK released on December 19 last year and collected Rs 615 crores worldwide, breaking Aamir Khan's own record of Dhoom: 3's total earnings of Rs 540 crores at home and abroad.

The success bash is a toast to each and every member of the PK team who has contributed towards this astronomical success

Rajkumar Hirani : China is enjoying story of 'PK'

IANS | Jun 12, 2015, 12.06 PM IST

Director Rajkumar Hirani never thought that PK would have a successful run in China because religion is not that organised in the country. But the response there has surprised him.PK has become the highest grossing Indian film overseas with a collection beyond Rs.620 crore.

On the 16th day since its release across 4,500 screens in China, it had reportedly minted Rs.100 crore, and it's still counting.

The director thought that "the movie might not run all that good in China".
He said: "There are no temples where people go and worship. But I was surprised. And from what I heard from china, I think people are enjoying the story. It is something new there."

"We have similar family values, we have similar taste, I think people connect to that. A lot of films have released there, but this one (PK) has done exceptionally well. And it is an interesting thing that another market is opening for us," Hirani added.

The movie, which also features Anushka Sharma and Sushant Singh Rajput, released in China on May 22.
