We are headed in the right direction : Deepika Padukone on Equal Pay

May 15, 2015 Karan Shah

We all know that actors are paid huge amounts of money in return for their services in the film, however actresses aren't paid as much as the actors. A male star is paid more than what an actress gets even when she acts as the lead in a women-centric film. A long debate has been going on for the demand of equal pay for actors and actresses.

So, when we asked Deepika Padukone about this at the Piku success party, she stated, "It's a long debate and several processes need to be put into place for this to happen. Yes, it is true that guys are paid way more than what the girls get paid, but I guess there is a reason for that too. However, times are changing and we are also reacting to it. I am very optimistic that the change will happen and we are headed in the right direction. With the kind of roles that we are being offered now, I guess we are heading in the right direction."

Thoughts?

It seems like that Kangana, Priyanka and Deepika are going to make the big impact if there will be a change and maybe Anushka too. These girls have a huge influence on the women centric movies which are doing good on the BO, so good luck. They definetely will not get the equal amout as a male lead but they should get paid at least much more than they are actually getting.

You will revive Ranbir's career, you are going in the right direction. You should be paid more than him in Tamashaa 🥳

The fact is that Deepika and his pairing WILL work out after his 3 back to back flops and she will save him

Relax buddy... lets not forget that Ranbir saved Deepika's career through YJHD. All Deepika had before that was Cocktail and it was almost entirely Ranbir who was fresh off the success of his other films and his star-power which made YJHD a Blockbuster...

The industry has come a long way! Its started to explore more mature themes! And girls certainly do a lot more now than look pretty and dance! Women-centric and off beat films do well at the box office. Still a long way to go for complete equality!

I am agree with Deepika for this statement. The reason is who the toughest role & main role in the movie.

I disagree with you. Deepika career revive from cocktail and race 2 was also a success. As far as YJHD is concern then it didnt just worked because of RK. It worked because of their pair and the fact that it was a rom com.

Lets not forget that right after YJHD success, Ranbir had besharam which was a flop. Tamasha will defo work because of their pair.
