So Aao Raja did the trick for SS Audience, only SS Bumper start can give extra kick for this film... Let's See how big is the weekend, as per BOI it is good but not which was expected due to holiday.

The ApunKaChoice movie review of Gabbar Is Back'. Chest thumping moral uprightness is peddled with all the mainstream masala one can digest in Akshay Kumar's latest film 'Gabbar Is Back'. The movie is hatke' for the actor only in that he has more of facial hair and less of his goofy grin. Save these, it's almost a rerun of the previous Akshay Kumar starrers, in which he fought and pummeled the bad guys for reasons different than weeding out corruption from the system.

In 'Gabbar Is Back', Akshay Kumar plays Aditya, a professor who is an undercover vigilante along with a bunch of likeminded followers. Operating under the pseudonym of Gabbar, Aditya targets the corrupt and deals out punishment as well. In some cases, he hangs the culprit by neck in the public square so that it strikes fear into the hearts of the corrupt.

But beneath this vigilantism, Gabbar also seethes with revenge for the wrong done to his family. On his hit list is the maha corrupt builder Patil (Suman Talwar).

When he's not bumping off the bad guys, Gabbar spends quality time with the glamorous lawyer (Shruti Haasan) one of whose special abilities include delivering babies in the back of the car, that too without the help of a vacuum cleaner.

Needless to say that in this loud, crass and jingoistic film, the evil forces will square up to the vigilante hero who will get to spout a strong social message for public (both in the film and in cinema halls) in the finale.

A remake of the Tamil movie Ramanna', 'Gabbar Is Back' is directed by Krish and written by Rajat Arora. Both of them have done a pretty sorry job. The dialogues are corny and even cringe-inducing. Sample this: In one scene Akshay Kumar rattles off, "Tum corrupt officials ke liye rishwat aur naariyal, dono ek cheez ho gaye hai, har roz chadhana padta hai." The direction is a throwback to the actioners of the 90s. Loud background music hammers your eardrums; songs pop out of nowhere; the twist before the interval is lame.

The only saving grace of the film is Akshay Kumar in his bushy beard and jhulfein'. Kumar pumps in as much of his charm as he can, but is hobbled by a poorly written part. The action and stunts are a treat for diehard Akshay fans.

Shruti Haasan is reduced to the role of a simpering, smiling girl with minimal variation in facial expressions. Kareena Kapoor makes an appearance in a song for reasons only the makers understand better.

Suman Talwar as the main villain fails to infuse dread.

In short, 'Gabbar Is Back' offers little new than Akshay Kumar's salt-n-pepper hair. The film claims to espouse the noble cause of the fight against corruption but presents the message in the most clichd manner.

Recommended only for diehard Akshay Kumar fans.

Gabbar Is Back Collects Well On Day One

Gabbar Is Back is has had a good first day with collections looking to be around 11.50 crore nett but when you factor in that it was a holiday in some parts of the country then the 11 crore nett plus number is not so good.

It is the biggest opening day of the year for Hindi films easily surpassing the 9.40 crore nett of Roy. Akshay Kumar's last release Baby had opened to less than 8 crore nett and it is way ahead of that but these were not exactly big numbers to beat. The film has collected well in Rajasthan, CPCI, Bihar and most parts of Mumbai circuit.

Rajasthan has grossed a good 75 lakhs nett plus while Delhi/UP will cross 2 crore nett but Delhi city has not performed too well. There was not a holiday in North so collections did not get a boost there.

11 crs are not bad colelctions.
