Looks have to be unique (unique doesn't mean extraordinary). He should be relatable yet have certain charisma.

AB, Dilip Kumar, RK, SRK, Aamir etc are not conventional perfect lookers. But they are unique in their own way and possess certain charm and screen presence.

While Dharam and Salman look great but have a relatable, affable air about them unlike other statuesque male model type stars.

You have to be someone people can aspire to be yet also identify with.

For me its looks, luck, connections and utmost of ALL: Attitude and Sincerity to your passion,..

e.g. Imran Khan had ALL,.. @ 1 stage he was expected as The Next Big Thing,.. buh now he is nowhere,.. and i blame it to his lack of passion,..

there is no hard and fast rule... we have tingu khans who have no height... only salman is looker.. amitabh bachchan was ugly in his early films...
for actors to become superstars, first they need good acting and good luck (opportunity to work with big directors)..but people like srk had no connection in the industry yet he built his connections by impressing the industry people...so good talker, good actor ,..that's enough.
