Gone Girl became Gillian Flynn's most popular book, but I always felt Sharp Objects and Dark Places were her better works. They are both so devilishly dark and twisted. If you thought Gone Girl was twisted, wait to have your wind knocked out with these two.
Gillian Flynn is some narrator. I love that she uses Midwestern small towns as her backdrop. A lot of people seem obsessed with big cities, but small towns make perfect foils for eerie stories. A Kansas farmhouse as the site of a satanic massacre or a picture perfect small town traumatized by a gruesome serial killer - the settings add much more character than it would have been set in New York or San Francisco.
I think Amity is the best character by Flynn, followed by Diondra. Amy Dunne is not as crazy as either one of them. Looks like Chloe Grace Moretz is going to play Diondra in the Dark Palces adaptation. So I guess Amity would have to be Dakota Fanning. I'm just worried she may be a bit too old for the role.
Fanning is such a revelation as an actor, I think she would be the perfect fit.
COMPLETELY agreed!! She's such a fan girl of Stephen King & Capote, I love she uses small towns too. Small towns have all the expected warmth & yet none of the reality of it, they're the most apt settings for her stories.
Oh absolutely, SO & DP are her most twisted works, they're evil actually. I loved Amy Dunne ..And then I didn't. She was so disappointing. Camille, Amity & Diondra are the true evil ones.
Gillian is an incredible writer, my most favourite thing about her narration style is how she almost indulgently, yet detachedly recites the story. Almost like a loving yet wary mother. 😆
