It was easy to love Blurred Lines. A catchy unique beat, some great vocals. Before you know it the song is embedded in your brain like a vicious earworm. It stays in there on repeat all day as you sing along and dance along.
Then you hear the lyrics it shocks and revolts. It is a complete date rape song, convincing a woman that she actually wants everything he wants to do to her. "I know you want it. I hate these blurred lines". It makes you feel sick for liking the song.
There is also the MTV performance with Miley Cyrus and Robin Thicke. Miley Cyrus ended up getting all the hatred and flak for being too sexual and provocative. However, Robin Thick an equal participant of the performance got no criticism. Like it is normal for a guy to objectify and sexualize a woman. It is OK for him to do so. It is only the woman's fault that she is objectified. It makes me furious. This is the rape culture that prevails and permeates even in western society.
Sometimes I still listen to the song and tap to it, and it makes me mad at myself.
I won't dignify the vile song by posting it here.
