I'd say Vidya. She influenced other actresses to strive towards movies with strong female characters

Vidya Balan, Deepika and to some extent Katrina and PC. PC especially because she has tried to diversify beyond acting.

It's difficult to name one actress since they all faced ups and downs, gave good performance and bad.

But overall in terms of transition from a non-actress to being called an actress, it has to be deepika.

PC gave some really good performances.

Alia is showing passion and strive to achieve that number one actress spot, and she is genuinely working towards it

The rest I would say are okayish

Honestly I think Deepika has really worked hard over the years...When she debuted in OSO, and her subsequent movies she was such a bad actor... Her movie roles and movie choices were pretty bad... But starting from Cocktail, she really improved..Her looks, style and acting <-- there was a huge change in her... And in last 3-4yrs shes probably the only actress who have worked so hard!

Also, Alia has worked and shes managed to make a mark... But she had it all too easy being a MAhesh Bhatt's daughter... she got the best movies...but i dont think shes been that good... Her acting is still pretty average...though shes improving but will take 1 or 2 more years to reach there

Clearly some people missed the in the last 5 years part. How did Deepika and Alia make an impact in the last 5 years? Both of then just started being the top actresses yesterday.

I would go with Vidya and then PC. PC with the type of roles she picked and Vidya with roles and films she picked. Vidya inspired a lot of directors to make heroine oriented roles because a lot of her films worked at the boxoffice.

Vidya Balan -- not because of all the accolades she herself received.

But because of the courage she gave the rest of the industry to invest in more films with better roles for women. She pretty much made it not only 'cool' but also a requirement for actresses to attempt such roles...for such films to be made. That, to me, is the real impact of an actor-- the changes they bring to the industry.

It's not that she was the first to do such roles, but she got the most success (and without relying on a big star)...and that paved the way.
