Is Tabu the only successful actress in her 40's?

Yes, she is. Sorry people but some of you need to update your information, ofcourse one Haider doesn't make a difference - but you guys are acting like Tabu has made a comeback out of nowhere. Tabu has consistently been working - maybe not every single year, but its not like she took a 10 year break and returned.

Some of her topnotch work:

2014 - Haider

2012- Life of Pi

2007- Cheeni Kum

2006- Namesake

2004 - Meenaxi

2003 - Maqbool (she had 5 releases in 2003)

2002- Chandani Bar, Filhaal,

She did other movies too but these above movies were the most appreciated from her lineup. She may not be doing 10 films a year, but she has consistently been working and delivering strong performances. I don't know on what basis people are saying how she got lucky with Haider or that one Haider cant turn around her career. Tabu easily has the best career compared to the ladies of her generation (Karishma, Urmila)...Hell l think Tabu has an even better career than Madhuri! In terms her body of work!

In 2007 she even got Flmfare Crticis award for Cheeni Kum. So for all those people who are saying that she got lucky with Haider - You clearly know nothing about Tabu and her work.

I do think in terms of popularity and star power that Madhuri, Aishwarya and Kajol are a lot more powerful than Tabu, but in terms of acting talent and body of work Tabu rules.

tabu always showed her consistency in choosing movies and roles..

her movies like ASTITVA ,CHEENI KUM,CHANDINI BAR,where she comes out with a phenomenal performance and the more you say about it the lesser it is..

as some one said she is one of the secured actress ,who accepted/tried the challenging roles rather than doing glamorous roles...she never even cared abt her looks in the public events,which shows her confidence..

so yes!!she was/is/will be a successful actress for life..

She was praised for The Namesake and was in Life of Pi also.

Mere popularity doesn't mean anything. Many of them keep coming and grinning on TV shows yet give no successful or acclaimed film. "One Haider" or "One Namesake" are better than numerous useless photo ops.

Yes, I think we are all getting confused between star power and acting talent. Tabu may never have been a big star. But then looking at her filmography, it doesn't look as if she was aiming to be one.

For Haider, it was probably her good working relationship with Vishal Bhardwaj from the time of Maqbool that got her the role. He knew she would do justice to the role of Ghazala. And that's exactly what she did.

It depends on one's definition of success. For some success may be featuring in six 100 cr movies with no substantial role while for some it may be featuring in on movie or two with powerful meaty roles. And Tabu definitely falls in the latter. She may not have the 100 cr kitty but she indeed has the "a" of an actor and "r" of a role. Performers keep on performing, but can these performers give me a fun film to watch than the zzz boring sagas 😆

Regarding commercial success Tabu did have hits but didn't take commercial films or success seriously. This is why she agreed to do bhabhi type roles in films like HSSH without bothering about rivalry with contemporaries. She wasnot ambitious or aggressive about commercial success. I think she has not even done any ads or public service messages either. Don't remember seeing her in any.
She's far more reclusive and less media savvy than her aunt Shabana Azmi too.

Power and BO also have a lot to do with how one markets him/her self. Tabu has done nothing to promote herself.

Her choices like Viraasat, Astitva, Maachis etc prove her bent towards more serious, performance oriented roles.

She used to get best actress awards in critics choice category almost every other year. Talent wise she's unquestionably superior. A 2 time National Award winner for best actress.

I doubt she will cash on success of Haider either. Remained silent over her acclaimed international outings too.

Popularity or "power" doesn't seem to be her aim at all.
