Sulemani Keeda- A promising movie on the state of Bollywood scriptwriters and the fight between commercial cinema and art house cinema. The premise is simple-a scriptwriter duo unable to sell their story Sulemani Keeda to Bollywood producers until they get hold of a world cinema obsessed star kid who is ready to buy the story and act in their movie. The rest of the movie shows whether the scriptwriters are able to make it or are sold to commercial Bollywood cinema.
There's nothing path breaking in the story but still there are ample number of situations that makes the film likable.I liked those little sub plots and scenes here and there more than the overall theme of the movie. The setting of the film is a bit like Delhi Belly.Quirky characters and very original sets and situations.Though the film is a comedy in parts but there's a good amount of love and emotions in the film as well.
The world cinema obsessed producer ka beta/star kid with an accent who loves his pet cat Fellini is hilarious.đ¤ŁThe actors are fine but one actor who stands out is Aditi Vasudev. One of my favorite performances by an actress this year. She is such a natural actress, with the perfect body language and dialogue delivery. The film is technically weak since it's a low budget movie, like a super low budget movie.I felt most parts of the movie was shot with a DSLR camera having a lot of camera shakes, which was slightly irritating.Though the technical aspect was weak but the direction was really good. The director managed to even include an animated sequence in the low budget movie which was hilarious and innovative.
Overall a good film which could have been better visually if they could have found a big producer. But kudos to the makers for not just making the movie but having their movie released in the theatres.đThough independent movies releasing in theatres is encouraging but it was disheartening to see that I was the only one watching the film in an empty theatre, that too in a metro which supports such movies.
