varun attempted masala comedy. shahid tried with phata poster nikla hero but failed. ranbir tried with besharam but failed. besides salman, govinda and akshay barely anyone clicks with this genre. main tera hero wasnt rom com. as for rom com - band baaja baraat was rom com too, just hskd. difference was bbb was average in terms of box office and hskd was a hit. kill dill and gunday are just masala films nothing extra ordinary. rom coms have most failure rate in bollywood in last five years - gori tere pyaar mein, anjaana anjaani, break ke baad, daawat e ishq, khoobsurat, hasee toh phasee, and many more. none of them were successful. where more pathbreaking films were hits such barfi, kahaani and vicky donor. only hit rom coms in recent years were - yjhd, mere bro ki dhulan, 2 states, hskd, ihls and shudh desi romance in comparison to masala films which ranveer attempted with gunday and kill dill but didnt succeed. 😆 varun has wide range of genre coming up and so has arjun with tevar being his solo masla film as he already has hit in tragic romance and romcom genre.
