But I feel that is the problem. There are no results. They just talk about it for promotions and forget it.Take Rani's case for instance. She went on and on about women rights and empowerment during Mardaani and after the release, she became silent.Deepika too became silent after the reply by BT.No one cares about the issue they start talking about after a while. It's all about living in the moment for them. And the saddest part is since they are popular they get access to other media like TV,newspapers, etc which makes them self made 'powerful icons.' If Nandita Das had received even half ot the support Deepika got through the media publicity over her cleavage issue, she definitely could have taken her campaign against fairness creams forward.
I think in a country as massive as India with a multitude of issues it is very difficult to get and measure tangible results. That doesn't mean the effect is zero.
Take the DP issue. It took social media by storm with both sides expressing strong opinions. Media picked it up as well and there was massive coverage. TOI posted their views and tons of other media outlets big and small shared their views. Even here on IF we had raging debates going on for pages.
Today the issue has died down and it seems nothing has changed. Tangibly we don't see a difference. On an intangible level it made a huge impact. People were talking about it. Those who engaged in discussions and debate started thinking and forming opinions. Even people who didn't care were forced to have exposure to the issue and ended up involuntarily absorbing various POVs. Long term even that brief involuntary exposure makes a huge difference. Controversies like this subliminally get populations thinking about issues they are ignorant or apathetic about and start priming them to be more thoughtful in the future.
If you look at any social movement in history women's rights, civil rights and even LGBT rights you don't see any tangible paradigm shift overnight. It is sporadic but continuous exposure to bursts of controversy that slowly have reshaped how people view things. These celebrities maybe doing things selfishly for attention and publicity. However, through that they are giving Indian society those continuous bursts of controversy to cause long term slow paradigm shifts. Think of Bollywood back in the nineties when songs with "sexy" were such a controversy to now when "sexy" is dropped about easily and randomly. Those publicity stunts and controversies of the nineties started making Indian people evaluate certain notions of taboo.
I too wish certain issues and celebrities got more attention, but I'll take something over nothing.

My problem is that why is this being turned into a feminist thing? Even male stars gets targeted as well... All of the big Stars do and some of them have been in more significant scandals than someone's lips or cleavage.
Two reasons
Statistically, female related issues are more numerous and severe than that of men. It Is not that men don't have issues or have less important issues. It is just their numerical occurrences are far fewer to be statistically significant.
Feminism aims to kill two birds with one stone. Feminism is about equality for both men and women. It aims to end all double standards in society. Once society views men and women as human beings and judges them as human beings and not two distinct male and female standards, stereotypes and judgments against both men and women will cease to exist. Feminism is important to humans and society as a whole, not just women.
