The rule number 1 and the biggest rule for any kind of masala is there has to be some degree of seriousness attached to it IN TERMS OF STAKES from lead actor perspective, otherwise its a comedy

Number 2, there has to be a serious narrative not just mindless action strung together, mindless OTT action doesn't maketh a masala film, its the narrative that decides, there are films with strong emotional core and films which just hints/skims at masala elements and goes about in its own way without any sort of seriousness or brings other elements into play like thriller

--- bang bang, kick belongs to the non serious multiplex popcorn masala
--- wanted, dabangg 1,rowdy rathore, holiday are also same but better made


Then there are simply badly made movies even in masala

--- jai ho, dabangg 2 etc


Among the "big" star movies in recent past only ghajini, agneepath and dhoom 3 are the films which had serious narrative through out with strong emotional core and stakes for its protagonist, among these dhoom 3 was a casualty of the "dhoom" expectations, the 'dhoom' elements did not gel well with the core masala narrative it was following which is why it got such mixed response, remove that 'dhoom' elements, we have a strong masala film in our hand


From the given list I would pick dhoom 3, wanted and dabangg as better masala films

Dabangg 1 only. Paisa vasool movie no dull moment. Direction to music everything was good and it was original. 👍🏼

In recent years only Dabangg and Kick is appreciated in good size by both audience and critics. some critics who hates salman films praised Kick. Dabangg and Wanted started the trend.
